i have a 1966 coronet with a 318 poly. the starter went out. when the starter stopped starting it was running perfect. one month later and a lot of snow I got the new starter in and it starts every time.
but it now starts and has a clicking/ tapping sound coming out from it.

baseline is I think it is the starter either needs shims or since it is a remanufactured starter it may be bad. im going to pull the starter and see if something inside the bellhouse is hitting it.

any suggestions or solutions welcome.

Check the shield at the bottom of the trans. I assume it's an auto trans? Had a similar situation on a 340 and that's what it was. Wouldn't hurt to pull it and make sure it's not out of shape and make sure all the converter bolts are tight while you're there.
