Hey, I need some advise about choosing torque converter for my 340, its 0,30 over, all internals are forged. Crower hydraulic flat tappet cam whit a working range from 3000 RPM and the redline at 7000 RPM. Edelbrock torker2 intake and a holley 600cfm. And it have the X-heads. I was told that I need at least 2500 in stall, and I wonder if that's true? If not, how low can I go or how much do i need? Its a street car so it dont need to have all the power at once, just want it to go forwards. And is there any brands of converters that's better than other? Thanks for any advise :)

If I remember right you want a stall converter that fully engages about 500 rpm before your power band begins so like you mentioned around 2500. I still need one and everyone has told me to get one custom made for my combo as they are specifically built for your application and work better.

I don't know if the file I'd like to post for you comes up or not, I've had some issues trying to do this.
I worked for one of Canada's Premium High Stall manuafacteurs prior to retirement, and have a form used for ordering a specific converter for YOUR APPLICATION. Send me an email, and I'll email this form for you. If you'd like, I can have someone very knowledgeable on performance converters get in touch with you.
My email is [email protected]., please feel free to contact me if you wish.
A general rule of thumb, was usually no more than 2500-3000 stall, depending on engine specs, cam specs, rear tire size, rear axle ratio for the street. Personal experience and from talking to a lot of others anything more that 3000 rpm is not fun for the street/highway. Always kind of mushy and slipping/generating a lot of heat.
