Hi guys and gals,
looking to get a blow through carb for my 400 magnum. does anyone know where i can get one and what to look for? im planning on running twin t28 turbo's running just a low 5-6psi. not looking for a power monster, just to help the car keep up with the new boys.

thanks,

looking for quality over quantity here

First, save yourself a LOT of headache and join theturboforums.com, their is a section devoted to Mopars only.

Secondly, CSU and C&S carbs are the top rated blow through carbs on the market. CSU is very reasonable, while C&S tends to be a little on the higher side in pricing depending on what your looking for. This would be a time to research E85 as well.

Third, you can modify your own carb for blow through; check out Hanger18 mods in a google search. I would honestly advise against this though, and just buy a used blow through carb or a new one set up completely out of the box.

Fourth, a 750 blow through carb will work in upwards to 1300HP. Carb requirements are very different in turbo applications. Their is always BT carbs for sale on either yellowbullet.com or theturboforums.com classifieds section.

Fifth, don't expect much guidance when it comes to turbos and mopar big blocks. Their are very few people who honestly turbo these cars. Their are probably 400 turbo mustangs in comparison to 1 turbo mopar of any engine family.

Last but not least, check out the budget GT45 turbo's for twins. VS racing has them with a one year warranty, and they are VERY reasonable. Don't even waste your time with the small fish, go ahead and get a turbo that will make the power you are looking for without causing major backpressure issues.

A book called Maximum Boost by Corky Bell is a great guide to building your perfect turbo car and gives you the basics of turbocharging. You can find it in PDF format online for free or can order it as well.

A single turbo is always more efficient than two twins if you size it right. Twin turbos do not decrease 'lag'. A good Borg Warner S400 series turbo would work great for your application. They are bullet proof and are very, very budget oriented at $640+ shipped from Turbodaves.com

Expect to spend near $3,000 or more. I purchased my S475 and Carb for $1,200 if that gives you a basic idea of how much 'the little things' add up to be. Here is a complete parts list with prices I paid, noting I found these parts all near rock bottom and check out my total..

I never saw an intercooler on your list as I think they are important

Ahh thanks guys. To be honest, you said that to every 400turbo mystangs there will be 1 turbo mopar. That is why im doing it. Not looking for huge power at all. Just a turbo set up that will work reliably but still produce enough to turb heads and obviously burn some descent rubber!! Originally i was planning on running a single gt4088. Ive heared with running low boost you dont need an intercooler but i plane to run one anyway.

Dang, sweet5ltr, i've done what i consider to be some pretty serious research into turboing my 413 and that was by FAR the best, most informative turbo post i've ever read. Thanks a lot for the break down.

Jwalker, i have never built one but sweet5ltr is right, there is a TON of good info on turboforums.

Jwalker, i have never built one but sweet5ltr is right, there is a TON of good info on turboforums.

I also need to add I had to purchase ANOTHER $400 worth of AN fittings and Aeroquip hose. My total is over $3,000 and this is spending twenty hours or more a week, attempting to find the best prices. Really, the install is pretty straight forward. I have probably two hundred hours of research into this build prior to starting.

I have a ton of other info I can give out, I am doing this turbo as we speak. If the turbo is a rear mount, their is no need for an intercooler as the charge piping from front to rear acts as a 50-60% efficient intercooler. You will also see a negative impact on 'load' or boost pressure when running through most intercoolers, all are not created equal. The best intercoolers offer 0-1PSI of pressure loss, but may cost you well over $300. In front mount applications, always do an intercooler if possible as the efficiency in modern air-to-air intercoolers can reach over 90%. If you plan on running E85 with your turbo setup, an intercooler is optional but not needed.

I personlly when I build my twin turbo, gonna use a pro systems sv1 carb but they also offer standard carbs that are blow through set up but last time I checked with them on the sv1 carb they didn't have one yet. Course that was a year ago I think.
Sweet5ltr nice list you've made. All the little things do add up. Thats what's killing me on my n/a motor now is the little pieces you run into needing.
