4150 or Dominator on 500+" Motors
For builds that are primarily used for Drag Racing (and very little street use) please post if you are using a Dominator or 4150 Carb.

If you are using a Dominator (most likely a 1050?) please report what intake manifold you are using...Brand and Single Plane or Dual Plane
and....if you switched from a 4150 Carb setup tell us what you switched from and what improvement did you see in ET/MPH after you switched over ?

If you are using a 4150 base carb please tell us what CFM and what intake manifold you are using...Brand and Single Plane or Dual Plane
and.....Your ET/MPH with your setup.

Most reports I read say that 500" Mopars really love lots of fuel like a 1050 can provide...In real life with our guys on B Bodies, does this play out as true ?

Let us know your info. Thanks

PS: For those of you who have "Tunnel Rams" with dual carbs and/or Blowers please be assured that the rest of us ENVY your setups.

The 511" low deck for my red stick shift Charger has a Quickfuel 1050, 4150 style carb on it. I have both annular and down leg so we will dyno both. Maybe even an 8896 1050 CFM Dominator is the 4150's don't suck enough wind at/around 7500 RPM. Hopefully the dyno session will be in the next week or so.

I run a 1050 Dom on my 446 CI motor with an Edelbrock Victor manifold. at the time they did not have the Super Victor so I have to use an adapter. Been on there a long time, I tried smaller carbs but it always slowed down. I will be trying 4150 1000cfm carb in the near future.

Mike I am waiting for you to do this so I can see how much difference it makes. So hurray up. LoL. Just kidding but I am curious to see what yours does since I run the Indy dual plane. Ron

it's fairly simple to do the math on this to get yourselves in the ball park. divide your cubic inches by 1728 to get the cubic foot displacement of your engine and then multiply by half the rpm that engine is making peak power. example a 500cuin enigine making peak power at 6000rpm: 500 divided by 1728 = .289 x 3000rpm = 867. so, at 100% volumetric efficiency the engine needs 867cuft of air at 6000rpm. a single plane intake can use 110% of that value and a dual plane can use 120%. the real problem that comes into play is trying to max air flow with a single carb.

Last summer I ran the Victor manifold with 4781 850 DP on my 501 cu in, RPM heads, old long duration cam. It worked fine, but I wasn't really going for maximum performance. Haven't tried a Dominator, but suspect 500+ cu in wants more air. My new 511 will use Max Wedge port heads & manifold. I'm pretty sure a Dominator is in the cards.

950 CFM HP Holley with single plane Mopar max wedge intake..........10.96 at 123 MPH

1050 CFM Quickfuel(4500) with Edelbrock Super Victor max wedge.......10.53 at 128 MPH

if you set aside cfm ratings and do the math you'll find that the 1050 has 25% more venturii and throttle bore area.

2 out of the box used Eddys 750's with the chokes removed, 9.11@149

PS, there cheap

Wish I lived closer Mike I would lend you my current AED 1050 and Indy intake.

Ron, I sold my INDY dual plane to a fellow Mopar guy here on B-Body. I now have an Edelbrock VICTOR 440 Single Plane. I will run the Edelbrock Victor 440 2 different ways:
1) With my 850 Mighty Demon in conjunction with my 2" Wilson CNC tapered Spacer.
2) With my brand new 1050 Holley Dominator in conjunction with my 2" 4150 TO 4500 adapter.
My next outing is not until Feb 20/21 at a 2 day Test&Tune at Famoso (Bakersfield, CA). Like I have reported before I hope to get the 850 Demon setup's final jetting/timing/tire air pressure/launch RPM dialed in so I can hopefully go in the 10.80's with this setup. My best so far with that setup is [email protected] but only with 4 runs and very little time to "tweak" and "tune" that new setup.
Then on that same weekend after I finish wringing out my best ET/MPH with the Demon setup then I will have that as a "benchmark" so I will then pull the 850 Demon/Wilson CNC Spacer and put on the 4500/4150 adapter and my 1050 Dominator to get a direct result of just how much better a 1050 Dominator will perform on a 500" motor.

(Note: The INDY website and catalog says that if you are going to run a Dominator you SHOULD USE a 4500 to 4150 on a 4150 flanged manifold as it IS WORTH 12-15 HORSEPOWER on their Dyno.) That is the setup I will be running so we will see.

I would say you will see about 2-3 tenths better with the Dominator Mike, the 850 is more suited to a gay 440.

Here are 2 pixs....
1) First picture is my "new setup" Edelbrock Victor 440 with my new Holley 1050 Dominator adapted to the Victor with a 4500 to 4150 Adapter.

2) Second Picture is my "Old setup"....850 Mighty Demon on INDY Dual Plane...this is the setup I went [email protected] with little or no time to wring out timing/jetting/launch RPM and Tire Pressure.

Note: I sold the INDY Dual Plane that is in the 2nd Picture and the motor now ONLY has the Edelbrock Victor 440 Single Plane. I will mount the 850 Demon with my Wilson CNC Tapered Spacer on the Edelbrock Victor 440 Single Plane. This new single plane setup (with plenty of time to sort out Jetting, etc) hopefully will go in the 10.80's with the 850 Demon setup ...then I will take off the Demon and put on the Dominator (like in the top picture) to try out the Dominator.

Was the Mopar single plane the M1 intake ? Ron

Thanks for the info Mike. I know the Victor wont fit under my hood but I believe the Mopar 337 single plane will and I have heard thats a very good intake. It may be one of the only single planes other then the Holley SD that will fit under my hood. Ron

lol Al
I am also going this route , especially as our class et's change . Picked up an old 1050 dom . Just need to change the boosters . Will probably try on my gay 440 first .
Calder is calling on the 23rd .
Tex

Ron....It was the 337 intake....

Thanks. Thats funny as I saw a dyno run where the 337 made about the same peak hp as the Victor intake. Dont remember what mag it was in or where I saw it. Ron
