4150 or Dominator on 500+" Motors

I find it hard to believe if both the 850 and a dominator are quality units that there is a .5 difference with no other changes. Plenty of 8-9 second cars on 1850 series Holley's. In my opinion the size of carbs are a small part of the go fast equation.

lol Al
I am also going this route , especially as our class et's change . Picked up an old 1050 dom . Just need to change the boosters . Will probably try on my gay 440 first .
Calder is calling on the 23rd .
Tex

Tex, :) stock/very mild is what I ment by gay, your car will no doubt pick up with the switch to Dominator

Well, we are on the road to dyno day. I am going to test two 4150 1050 CFM QuickFuel carbs. One has downleg boosters and the other annular. It will be interesting to see what how it all shakes out. Still debating on hitting it with a 250 shot on the dyno. If we have time I'll bolt a Dominator on it for informational purposes.

I'll see if I can dig up a tapered 4500-4150 adapter. Maybe I'll just buy one and blend it in. Either way we will get some info.

The other thing that will be interested is seeing what the Hughes CNC ported Edelbrock Victor MW heads are worth.

See what you started lol. I'll never get this thing to fit under the hood scoop!

Jeremiah ,
could you also throw up your engine specs as well thanks .

It's all going in my red '66 Charger mated to a G Force GF5R 5-speed backed up by a Dana 60 with 3.54 gears.

Maybe we will make drag week in 2017 or something like that.

Thanks. Thats funny as I saw a dyno run where the 337 made about the same peak hp as the Victor intake. Dont remember what mag it was in or where I saw it. Ron

That dyno test was in Mopar Muscle Mag....so, obviously the intake was not a restriction....the carb definitely was !!!
Should have tried the 4500 carb on the 337 manifold with an adapter but didn't get around to it..

That oiling system is scary for what you're doing. Small pick up, small shallow pan. This thing should have enough power to accelerate at 2 G. I can see the pick up coming uncovered. Not to mention with only 6 quarts when you hit the brakes with at least 3 of those 6 up in the engine. I've seen mine go to zero hitting the brakes hard when I tried to run only 6 qts. And that's with a different deep trap door pan and swinging pick up.
Doug

But...it has a high volume pump lol. I'll keep a close eye on it and upgrade as needed. I'm all ears for low profile, street friendly oiling systems. Perhaps a Milodon road race pan would be better?

Perhaps it's time for a new thread?

The problem is very little capacity and a small feed to the pump. You've invested a lot of money in this build. It would be a shame to blow it up. I'd add an accumulator at the very least.
Doug

Doug, you know I am willing to listen to reason so thank you for the advice. I'll shoot you a PM so we don't thread jack this any further.

i've got one of those road race pans on the bench that i might use. i was playing with the trap doors with some parts washer fluid and got a little alarmed at how well the chambers trapped fluid. i'm not sure they'd make a good drag race pan, only 7qts. i know some folks do. i made a pan that has the kick outs for my '65 coronet driver (7qts), no trap doors but vertical baffles from the top down on the sides and full perimeter baffle over the sump. not sure it would be a good drag race pan.

You went from a 950 to a Dominator right ? Almost 5 tenths is even more then I would have thought it would pick up. I would have guessed 2 or 3 tenths. But it is what it is and thanks for the info. Ron

Ron...that dyno test comparison was on the HOT ROD MAGAZINE website under Mopar Muscle Magazine section. It was on a 505" and the Super Victor 2891 only made about 4 more HP than the M1...both with same 1050 Dominator
