This block appears to be an early cast date of 8/18/62 with the engine pad date stamp of 9/17/62. Quess there are two questions - one would be were there any 1962 cars fitted with a 426 and question 2 would be what has anyone seen as an early build date of a 426 Max Wedge engine ?

Thanks

That date is definitely 1963 production. I don't see why there wouldn't be early 63 max wedges, everything the same as 62 except for pistons/block

My 62 had a 426 maxwedge in it, but l did it, not Mopar!
I doubt any 62s got a 426.
Your block is very early 63. Mine is dated 12-17-62. I don't recall casting date.

By September 17th of 1962 they were building 1963 cars. 1962’s had been out of production for about 6 weeks.

Exactly. When I worked at Chrysler plant we were building 1970 cars in August 1969

Great - thanks.....you basically confirmed no 1962's cars got a 426 Max Wedge motor. I was aware of manufacturers start dates of pre - Sept so does or has anyone seen an earlier say - Aug date code 426 Max Wedge or another Sept ? Question 3 would be - were some early 1963's fitted with 413 Max Wedge's ? I know the 4sp 833 was a mid-year thing.

Ive heard rumors that some early 426 maxies were built from 413 blocks. Just bored .0625 over.
What is the casting number on your block? Mine is 2406730. Commonly referred to as the 730 block.

The 413's were a #697 block.

This would imply that 413 blocks are very thick for OEM to put them into new production. I have no idea just speculating

The block casting # is 2406730-1. Does anyone know what or if the head stamped #'s 1001 mean anything ? Both heads have that on the ends - will need to get the casting and date off them.

I very much doubt that is a Mopar stamping. Job number for head work at a machine shop?
1963 head should be a 286.(last three)

Could be - it's a standard bore block so not sure on the heads if they have had work or not.

the 4 speed trans in mid 63 was a bwt10and not a option on a 426 max wedge . the 833 4 speed came out with 64 cars and was a option with a 426 max wedge
