good morning. I've been dreaming of doing this for awhile. I know anything is possible with enough money. But am I crazy? I want to put mild built 440 into my 2005 magnum. Yes it has the modern hemi, but I'm tired of seeing classic cars with modern engines. It's time to see a modern car with old school power. You cannot replicate the sound and feel of old school Mopar engines. Thoughts?

Interesting idea. Does your Magnum have to pass emissions testing for state inspection? That will be tough for an old school motor.

It would be a difficult swap for many, many reasons. The guages all interface with the existing wiring and computer. The power windows, radio, air bags, anti lock brakes all rely on the existing wiring. The computer throws fits if any of the inputs are screwed with. If you disconnect any sensor to the stock engine or trans to make a drastic change like this, you'd have trouble.
In theory, you could eliminate and/or bypass much of it. Custom guages, independent wiring for the steering column and doors, a fully hydraulic 727 transmission or early 518 would work.

Hell yes!! Do it!!! There is a PT Cruiser that I've seen with a 426 Hemi in it, so I'd say you can do it.

No one wants Rational thinking and common sense here, Kern.

Hell yes do it. Act first and think later I say! Give the Sea of Silver plastic a kick in the balls with some real Horsepower. Make a Stripped down, Hot rod version of a Magnum. Go hog wild.

You use a meme featuring Shia LeBouf to support your opinion?
Really????

I'm just commenting that the "No-talent" assclown that he is makes him more of a joke than a spokesperson.....

He was good in Disturbia. And the Episode of the X-Files he was in as a Kid.

Al Bundy said, "Wedge it out the door, beefaloes!" I say, "Wedge it 'tween the fenders!" I'm also tired of old muscle with new motor. Maybe you'll start a trend. BTW, spent 20 years at Ft.H '78-'82.
And while I'm using too many abbreviations I agree w/ Kern F.S.L.
Good luck. Wanna see the progress.

As I own both classic Mopar 440 & modern Hemi mopar, IMO I would never do that swap. Maybe, just maybe if it were a basket case... but I would not ruin a perfectly well-running modern car, Kern makes some good points.

I wouldn't ruin a classic by putting a modern hemi in it either.

I say go for it but research it first. I'm sure there will be many issues that will pop up during the build. I've been thinking about putting a 440 in my 2004 Dodge Ram 4x4 so I'm right there with ya.

SOOoooooo......
Are you still considering the swap ??

I put an old school 406 into a 92 gmc. took everything out concerning the computer, and the stupidity that was on the front of the original engine. hi 11 second truck.

Yeah, there's one of those running around the Knoxville area also. Every time I see it, it still confounds me how they did it....or WHY?
