If your current assembly is inside the scoop area of a sixpack hood, it clearly wont work with a flat hood, or a standard rr hood which is essentially the same.
The easiest solution is a drop base air cleaner (or more drop than you have now), and then adjust thickness of the filter to use up most of the available space. Just be aware of the potential problems with using the dropped base. I bought a beautiful 2" drop base with a reverse velocity stack lid that should have flowed great. I couldnt make it work with my holley because it interfered with the carb linkage and the fuel inlet.
It seems to me that most people that use a drop base use the copy of the L88 version that has a shape stamped into it to clear holley float bowls and linkage.
I heartily endorse checking out engine masters test of air cleaners, available on you tube i think.
