I love these threads because I'm raising 4 kids so most stuff I do is on the cheap.
I am running a stock 440 bottom end from my grand mothers' 78 New Yorker. I pulled the engine running perfect and stripped the top end. I installed the MP purple hemi grind cam and lifters, ported and milled 915 heads with big valves. I also have headers, 2.5" exhaust with Holley street dominator intake and 750 vacuum secondary carb. For me the car runs real strong as is, but im upgrading the rear suspension then I want to go to the 509 cam and bigger carb. I'm working on rear leaf inboard relocate right now and just installed a 4:10 spool in my 8 3/4 (yes got the gears and spool on a deal). Now the funny part is my uncle has a 2008-2010 mustang GT 4.6 or 4.7 litre. He brought it by to my house after he bought it. He handed me the keys and let me take it out with my wife. I took it out to the country and let it loose. From a dead stop the car was slow as molasses compared to a big block car. But!!!! What I noticed is that the little roller motor really got the car moving once the car was at 40-50mph and up from there took off like a rocket to 100+mph. So, based on my experience with driving my 66 coronet 440 vs one time I drove a similar V8 Mustang GT is that, the Mopar wins a light to light street race. While the Mustang may or may not win 1/4 mile depending on modifications of each car. Just my 2 cents
