440 source great place

I have purchased some stuff from 440 source. One cool part was an adjustable oil pressure fitting that goes in place of a plug on the oil pump of a B / RB engine. It's supposed to give you the capability to adjust the oil pressure while the engine is running. After my shoulders are back in shape I will put it to the test on my engine run stand.

I ordered a set of their white composite head gaskets, and when they arrived they were damaged. They had been packed in a much larger box along with some other parts from my order. The mini starter I ordered was in the same box and had broken loose during shipping causing the damage.

I called customer service and explained what happened. The sales rep asked me to take pictures and email them to him, which I did. They sent me a new set of gaskets out at no charge second day priority mail.

I can't complain about that.

This happened a little over a year ago. I haven't ordered anything from them since then. But I will order from them again because they took care of me.

I just picked up a top end from 440 and I there is no more casting flash than my last set of eddies. If you're not spending the money on CNC'd heads, it's to be expected.

Considering 90% of the things in anyone's house is not produced in the country you live in, there isn't much point in getting worked up about it.

I get worked up about the 90% crap in my house too especially the toys that break the first day out of the box and then you have to explain to your kids that they're new toy is junk! There will always be a point in it, teaching our kids that cheap isn't always better and supporting the one that robs you in the middle of the night is only bettering them not us. Sorry guys I've just seen and read too many things about their way of doing business (cheat and steel) and want absolutely nothing to do with them or their junk. I'm sure the Stealth's are fine but when it came time to buy heads and I couldn't afford the Eddies I simply put together a set of old cast iron 452s that I'm sure are 40+ years old with 200,000+ miles on them and roll down the road knowing "I'M STILL ROLLIN OLD SCHOOL AMERCAN MUSCLE BABEY". Yeah maybe my reasons are a little more politically motivated but non the less.......................

You read stuff liek that on 440 source? i always thought they were really good priced and have always had good dealings with them. Now besides my edelbrock intake i wont use a single edelbrock item anymore. my edelbrock carbs i used to have took 10 hours to clean up the bad casting and dangelberries hanging off everything, i have seen some really bad eddie heads too. Previous post about the procomp heads, IMO i would avoid as i have not heard one good comment about them, but most of those comments were chebbie motors.

I was just letting off some frustration about the Edelbrock heads. I guess they don't like #700 open spring pressures.

I'm not sure if K1 Technologies cranks and rods are made in the USA, but are supposed to be pretty good parts?
I may try them in my next project.

The Callies, Crower, and Bryant cranks are out of my budget at around $2,000+ if they even have one for a Big Block Mopar?

To your point, 747, I avoided Chinese rods and waited until I came across a good used set of Manley I beam rods for my 440 build. I'm also going with a factory steel crank instead of Chinese. These decisions came from both $$ standpoint and avoiding potential problems of new Chinese forgings. In addition, the h beam rods and stroker crank are just more bottom end than i need.

But I did decide to go with 440source heads, which I'll have someone go through before running. Like said above, the 440 source heads offer features that eddies don't - 99% stock look (I'll be painting mine engine color) and avoiding the $700 headers for the angled plugs. So for me, it was the $$ but also the features that made me go with them, besides the overwhelmingly positive reviews.

I'm selective in what I buy from 440 Source. I have found them pleasant and easy to deal with. If I have a problem they always correct it quickly. The stroker cranks will run without corrections in most applications but do occasionally need reground for my builds as the main journal runouts have been excessive. I don't buy the balanced kits but have Performance Machine in Idaho Falls do my balancing.

You can do anything with a Stealth head that you can do with an RPM head. It's just that the Stealth head is a little less refined. I would personally rather start with the RPM but I have no problems working with the Stealth more than the RPM other than the assembly process on the Stealth somehow screws up the valve stems around the locks and I have to discard some of the stock Stealth valves before I ever run them.

I am running their Stealth Heads on a stock build 383 right out of the box. They have not been massaged as some have done and for the most part they are giving me good service. The next engine build I do will be a 440 that will be fairly tame by comparison to others here and will most likely use their heads again. Only this time I will swap the retainers from 7's to 10's as has been suggested here. One thing to point out about Edlebrock here. Their founder was a devoted GM/Chevy guy and if you notice, most of the business is driven towards that Marquee. Nothing wrong with that at all. Only later did they realize that MOPAR would help increase their capture of the market place from the limited parts offerings for MOPAR to what it is now. Even back in the day when MOPAR guys would remove and replace the intakes for example, did Eddy expand in their offerings towards MOPAR. Still though they are not the only ones on the block now days and I will still use Eddy's products as well as Stealth products. As stated above..."BUDGET"...plays a very important part in any ones purchasing decisions...cr8crshr/Tuck

Sorry, not referring to 440 source just Chinese stuff in general. I have no doubt that 440 source as a company is probably a good bunch of people to deal with it's just where the parts come from that's all. I don't know what it's like over there but between the time I was young and now quality on almost everything has went to complete chit to the point that I'm extremely skeptical on everything especially parts that go in my motor.

Redo the valve job, replace the "Comp Cams" 7 degree retainers and locks with 10 degree, check the stem to guide clearance and hone to correct, cc the heads because the last Stealth heads were 81cc on one end and 85cc on the other (machined, milled, cast wrong?), remove casting flashes and sharp edges in bowls where the ports were machined, surface mill the heads because none of them are flat, replace the valves that have been too badly scored during the factory assembly, grind clearance on the sides of the intake ports for push rods if you are using 3/8 pushrods or 1.6 rockers, pressure test the valve springs and assemble to correct installed height.

Oh, by the way, we have to do almost the same things to the Edelbrock heads.
