440source aluminum heads

I am thinking of buying 440source heads for my '68 Charger. My 440 is getting bored .040 over and balanced. It will be used as a street cruiser. I want some easy additional horses without compromising drivability. Have any of you recently installed these heads on your Mopar? Good or bad results? What do you advise regarding heads for my rebuild?Thanks in advance sharing your experiences with these heads.Regards,Mike S

My buddy has them on a .060 over 440 in a 68 Fury. He says mileage and power are both up, and he used his stock exhaust manifolds. If you are going to put headers on consider the Edelbrock Performer RPM heads. They flow better but do cost more, Indy heads are also very good.

Edelbrock has an E-Street (EDL-5090) for big block Mopar with 75cc chambers. It doesn't look like a stock head like the Stealths do, but they are $1,325 a pair at Summit with free shipping. The Stealths are now $1,260 including shipping (to Ohio, anyway), so the E-Streets are only $75 more. I needed larger chambers for my build so had to get the RPMs.

I bought a set for my pump gas 440/512. I have nothing bad to say about them. They look like really nice components. Mine have been ported a little and 290 cfm @ .600. I am hoping by the end of summer I will have dyno results.

I went with my builders recommendation and used them on my recent Charger build. They made decent power on the dyno with no problems. I like them because they look just like a factory unit. A guy could paint them orange and they would look just like a pair of 906's.

I've got them on my 383 and am happy with them. I didn't do anything to them except swap out the locks since my cam lift required it.

That is exactly what I want to do on my 66' Sat. Undercover 512 all painted turquoise with dual snorkel air cleaner. No glitz or chrome just in your butt when I drop the hammer.

I got them because of the stock look. I think they only flow in the 260-270 range out of the box, but a little bit of porting and valve job, and they will flow 290 without too much work. I replaced the springs, retainers and locks for the Hydraulic roller cam I am using in the 505" stroked 440 (only 0.030" overbore.) If you use higher ratio rockers or larger pushrods you will need to clearance the pushrod holes in the heads.

Thanks to all those who responded with their experiences with these heads. Based on your feedback, I ordered a set 4/19/14. My professional engine rebuilder will take these heads apart to do some mild pocket porting. He is curious about these heads and will inspect them for fit and quality. I hope to get the engine on a dyno by the end of May and I will update this thread with results at that time.

I did the same on my 66 Ply Satellite/383 with HP Manifolds. Happy so far with the results. Only thing I would do differently now would be going with the 10 degree locks over the 7 degree locks that come with the heads. I like the stock look as well....

If you are going with a 1.6 rocker or a 3/8 pushrod you will most likely have to grind some clearance along the intake wall for the pushrods to clear.

Do they usually clear with 3/8" pushrods and 1.5 rockers?

If not, how much of a PITA is it to grind for clearance?

After doing some grinding on my dads heads, he said screw it, and ordered some 5/16 push rods from SmithBros.
