440source aluminum heads

Do they usually clear with 3/8" pushrods and 1.5 rockers?

If not, how much of a PITA is it to grind for clearance?

I repeat, "you will most likely have to"

Anytime you have to grind on the heads it is a pain. Grind some, try the fit, grind some more, try the fit again.............yadayadyada. It's why we get the big bucks when we port the Stealth heads and have to do the pushrod clearancing. When using Stealth heads I recommend you plan for 1.5 rockers and 5/16 pushrods. If you don't, plan on grinding!

So...just thinking out loud here...

Stealth heads - $1000 (now "on sale" with free shipping)
+ Springs to match cam - $100
+ Locks and Retainers - $100
+ 5/16 pushrods - $100

= $1300 in parts alone

Or.....

RPMs (springs, locks, and retainers would match my cam but would have to ding headers for spark plug clearance) = $1500

Or....

I have someone good with 906s who will do a pair - ready to go with springs, locks, retainers to match my cam - will flow better than OOTB Stealths (he says 270 cfm with a flow sheet to prove it) for $1100 minus $150 he will give me for my 452s as cores = $950 for a set of heads truly ready to bolt on.

But I'd have a 50 pound weight penalty, 45 year-old iron, and open chambers. What to do, what to do.

Will you ever want to go faster? If no, 906's. If unsure, RPM's. Just my opinion.

Faster than what the ported 906s will do for me over my stock 452s? Yeah, I probably will someday. Good point, whatever level I end up at, I will want to go just a little faster in the future.

You didn't get the RPMs from the Advance Auto/Pep Boys/wherever sale?!?!?

What about the E-Streets?

I chose the stealths on my 505ci to keep the OE look. the only major thing I did was even the cc volume on all the combustion chambers since there was just a little over 3cc's difference from the smallest to the biggest. also new spring and retainers, mild porting and nice valve job.

No, not quite there yet in my cylinder head fund. I found somewhere online that sells the RPMs for about $1400-something shipped and the Pep Boys deal was $1300 after tax, so I didn't feel too bad about missing the deal.

I was talking to Dwayne Porter about different head choices and he was saying he E Streets do in fact flow exactly the same as the RPMs like Edelbrock claims. I think Summit has them for less than $1300 for the 75cc chambers version.

The 75cc chamber would put my static compression at about 10.8:1 which might be a little on the edge for pump gas but I think do-able with the right tuning.
