5.7 with 426 cam

I have tried searching a vast amount of websites and forums I have also spoken to several manufacturers..... I am searching for ability to make the 5.7 Hemi sound identical to the 426 Hemi..... this far everyone has stated that the camshaft is the most obvious way to achieve this.... i have a 69 charger and I would like to go with the 426 but the 5.7 swap is much more affordable..... My only concern is swapping in the 5.7 and then being displeased with the results..... the car is a tribute to my late brother and while I am NOT concerned with the cosmetic looks of the 5.7 I am concerned with the sound..... It sounds crazy but it is of the utmost importance....any advice would be greatly appreciated

Sounds like a wonderful idea, I commend you for your desire to pay tribute to your brother. The problem here is that the 2 engines are very different in design. One is carbureted and the other is EFI, among other things. You could always have a cam custom ground to the 426 specs, but don't know how well that will work with a 5.7 motor. May be worth a try though.

It doesn't seem likely that the 426 hemi profile would work well in the 5.7 because the vast difference in head design. Rather figure out what the 5.7 cam is and go from there. Send it to Engle and let them plot it then make a recommendation. My knee jerk reaction will be a very similar to stock cam but with a slightly tighter LSA. Also, if you will run the stock EFI more overlap will not be a good thing for the computer to sort out, so in that case I'd run a carb or two.

The major difference isnt the efi or ignition, its the 5.7 uses a roller cam. They make cams for the 3g motors that really thump. They make everything for them.
