50 bucks to enter a car show?

That's an awesome looking Cuda!

I feel the same way............bowties usually get all the trophies! These "judges" have no idea what Mopars are, besides, most of the car shows here are $25 and they are run by one outfit called "Premium Productions" and I believe all the monies go into their pocket (after expenses).
We ARE THE SHOW, so why do WE have to pay to be in the show? Spectators don't pay.
A lot of us have scaled back on our car show participations here, but we usually will support worthwhile charities.

I agree. You have to guard your car, and even then they can get damaged. A big dog jumped on the driver's door of our '64 Corvette. Luckily I was able to buff out the scratches. An old guy in a motorized wheelchair ran into the front fender of our '64 Belvedere. Luckily I was able to touch up the scratches on that one. A young kid was test driving a motor bike at Mopars on the Mississippi 2 years ago. He'd never ridden one before and lost control and ran the bike into our front fender and driver's door. Almost $2,000 in damages, which we ended up covering with our own insurance. I hope that's the last of our car show "surprises".

Remind me to keep my distance, you seem to attract this stuff. I'm not that fussy about peiople touching or poking their head in to see the dash but I have my limits.

A week or so back a guy on a bike came near my car and I steped between him and the car and flatly tod him he cant be riding a bike at a car show/cruise.

I blame the orginizers, you need to control spectators to some degree

I agree completely. I haven't gone to many shows but they never seem to do any policing. Even the occasional reminders on the PA systems for parents to control kids etc would be nice. :tied up:

Went to a car show few weeks ago.
$10 to enter a car.
Local Fire Dept does this every year to raise money for MS.

It's a donation. No biggie.

The whole thing about judges not knowing thier *** from a hole in the ground is a completely seperate topic in itself. (Awesome Car)

I can understand cars shows charging $50 or more if you are getting something back for your money. Food, T-Shirts, Drink and so on.

I have gone to car shows where for $25 you get tickets for the raffle prises, two bbq lunches and a t-shirt. other shows what $35 and give you nothing. Some shows only give out a few awards and others give out hundreds.

I don't go to Hot August Nights because its way too comercial. Why should I pay twice the price for a hotel room, pay for parking, pay to participate in cruises and poker runs when I'm part of the attraction causing thousands of people to come to Reno to see my car. But in the end its my choice to pay and participate or to not pay and participate.

Thats the beauty of living in America, the freedom of choice.

I really like helping charities and fund raisers. Those are my favorite car shows to go to.

Most of the shows I have gone to are for some type of charity and that's cool. I don't really mind making a donation and hanging out with other car folks for the day. I do have an issue with shows / judges that lump modern cars in with old cars though. Went to one locally that gave the best of show to a 2009 Mustang GT with all sorts of bolt on glue on chrome stuff and Best Chevy went to a 2000 Corvette - similarily dressed up. Even though there were some really nice old cars (a beautiful 68' Vette 427/4 spd)... That I don't like to see. Anything after 197X needs to be in a class by itself, not with true old classics that guys spend lots of hours on...

Car shows are a great place to meet like minded folks. Then again, car shows also remind me of why I like spending more time with my dog

ROTFLMAO Alot of truth in that LOL
Last cruise I went to I met a guy from up north and we hit it off and became friends, he drove a nice 68 Monaco ragtop. At the same show we were sitting behind his car chatting when another Mopar guy I know... but don't talk to.......a bit snobby, told my new buddy that his car is not real. I have had many many C bodies and I looked up at this guy, I am sure with a face like a pissed off Robert De Niro and said WHAT!!!
He argued up and down that Dodge Monaco never made a ragtop..
So ya....I get the spending time with the dog thing LOL

too high , i only pay for show that a good part of it goes to charity

Moparfest up here in Ontario charges $35, but that is for the two days. Also they have a give away car on Sun and another prize of $5000 on Sat plus door prizes all day long. Now the show is all non profit with the money going to local kids clubs as well as the sunshine foundation.
I know two guys that refuse to go because of the entry fee, both can afford it as they have a few cars *g*.
One of the guys drives down in his daily driver and parks with the spectators refusing to bring any of his mopars because "they should be paying me to bring my car"
Funny thing is you park in a field away from the show and then you are bussed over to the fairgrounds where you pay $10 bucks to get in. Now wait for it...this guy comes both days..... total cost $20 entry fee....and he lives about 1 1/2 hours away.....so I am guessing close to $15 bucks in gas both ways for the two days....now lets add that up.....ROTF

Spend it or the kids will. When we are dead no one will care about the cars. Just spend it before the "kids get it and spend it on hand held garbage.

I agree that most are kinda "Fixed" A friend who owns a Cutlass 442 which is a nice car entered a show recently. We overheard some judges while inspectin his car say,"But hes not one of our club members" He also lost out on custom paint to a car with just a decal package. He was thinkin about joining their little car club til this happened. However he has won awards at several other shows.

I am going to my first show with my 69 RR Mopar rally in Fremont,Ca. $25 entry fee in the project class hoping to at least win a 5th or 6th spot maybe a free t-shirt :) just hoping to have fun. Winged cars this year so will take lots of pics hope the word is getting out.

All entry fees go to charity which is good and spectators are free to get in.

I have a couple of friends that do the same. They also won't get an EZ tag for the toll roads but will just drive the access road and put up with all the traffic lights and burn more gas. One makes over 100k a year and is not married! We had one toll road that is about 22 miles long and traffic is very light and I'll gladly pay the 3 bucks to drive it instead of getting on I-45 which is packed most of the time. The rail head for new incoming cars is out on that road too and I can get a good look at what's out out there and even get a feel for the economy based on how full the yard is not to mention it's more scenic. You can't take your eyes off the road when running the non toll roads around here.

I don't mind 15 or 20 bucks to enter a show if it's a good local show. I'm not spending much more than that especially if I have to burn a lot of gas to go a long distance.
You have to guard your car a most shows because of kids, bikes, and stupid people who just have to touch your car. What I've done that's a lot of fun is to sit a little ways away from the car with the alarm remote ready and hit the panic button when some idiot touches the car. Scares the hell out of em. :evil6:

I'll be damned if im gonna pay a fee THAT HIGH for the privilege of others to look at my car....thats just STUPID! i can take my car anywhere and no matter where im at becomes an instant car show! people gather around it and flock to it like its a U.F.O. im sure all you guys have the same problem......just statin' a fact ma'am.

try this:

park your car someplace and get out of it and go a good distance to where people have no idea whos car it is. sit back and just watch....its actually comical ! lol

Its amazing that for a non charity type car show, the organizer's will charge the Classic Car Owner's to enter their Car's which w/o these classic car's there would be no show??

$50.00 is way out of line!!! How about I went to Lead East in NJ, decent show, although same sh*t and they charged me $20.00 per person spectator entrance fee plus $5.00 parking. Never again, just crazy.

You Folk's want to go to a HUGE 9-11 Car Show.... $20.00 judged, giveaway's, Celebrities, Athlete's, Carnival style ride's and fun for Kid's,2,500 Car's, 1,200 Motorcycle's and 20K spectator's with all monies going to Widow's and Orhan's Fund NYPD PBA. This show is really great!
www.OrchardBeachCarShow.com This year on Sunday Sept 16th.

Believe it or not I did go to a car show that paid $50 to the top 25 cars and it was a big turn out. You still had to pay $20 to enter but still yet. And I think that's what's gonna have to happen to keep car shows alive. I enjoy goin to the local shows you can look at other cars that people have worked hard on, and get to talk to car guys like rest of us. And you can sit back and enjoy the day. It's just about havin good time and enjoying yourself. And the head of these car shows are forgetting that. Just my opinion

The thing that yanks my chain is when the show charges you to enter your car and then wants to charge admission for spectators. WTF. I refuse to enter or attend those shows, PERIOD!

To be fair, putting on a big show isn't free. The grounds have to be rented, and those have to be paid for up front in most cases. And you can't count on gate fees or other revenues because if the weather goes south during the show, you might not make much money.

Then you have the giveaways like dash plaques, t-shirts, door prizes, etc. Just for reference, the last time I did t-shirts for a show, my outlay was a skosh over $900. So I would need at least 18 cars at $50 just to cover the shirts.

And the big expense these days is the requirement to carry liability insurance to protect the venue. Lots of venues want a bond or some other coverage to protect them, and that's another cost to add in. Putting on shows these days ain't cheap.
