50 bucks to enter a car show?

My thoughts are if I'm going to pay $50, I might as well go to a track & race & at least have a chance at winning some of my money back, if not make some money at it... I have never been a big car show guy, too much of the all show & no go stuff or all the blower & non of the boost, for my particular likings, BUT now that I'm getting older, I'm getting more & more nostalgic, I want to see some of the old cars & people, I am going to attend a very select few shows {mostly shows that have an activity along with the car show, like a race, swap meet or something else} & more than likely just be a spectator 1st, then maybe bring my car the following year, if the car is worthy or finished & I like the venue, type of people attending, car types, fees, security & set up etc... I won't be going to any shows were they charge $50 to show anything, with out some return on the money or being able to sell stuff like swap meets etc. {unless of course the entry money goes to a worthy charity, they are making plenty off the gate sales, for people to see the very cars in the show they want to charge a bunch of money to show, with out the participents they don't have a show, they don't need a big entry fee & yes 1/2 of the fees are for insurance reason, just like going to the track, same thing}, but that's just my opinions... I don't think everyone should think like I do... I use to go too several shows, every year, mostly the local shows like the Diablo Valley Mopars car show at a park in Concord, the Car Craft show in Sacramento Cal Expo then the drags afterwords, Mopar Mania at Sacramento Raceway, the old Oakland Roadster Show were I would display my Race cars before the season when they were still nice before getting all scratched or chipped up & for my sponsors exposer, but I never paid to get in or to enter my cars, so it didn't bother me much... When I was racing regularly, I would get paid good money, by specific parts stores, to park my car, truck & trailer in front of the store, to bring in customers, while the races were in the area, before or afterwards & was paid dearly for the task, sold T-Shirts & got lots of photo opps, met women & little kids etc.... Maybe that's why I think the way I do... Sorry if I offended any regular car show guys, that's not my intensions, at all...

I feel the same way............bowties usually get all the trophies! These "judges" have no idea what Mopars are, besides, most of the car shows here are $25 and I believe all the monies go into their pocket (after expenses).
We ARE THE SHOW, so why do WE have to pay to be in the show? Spectators don't pay.
A lot of us have scaled back on our car show participations here, but we usually will support worthwhile charities.

I don't like to pay 20+ to participate in a show but i have in the past, lately i have not. I went to several shows in the past that were 20$ fee and the judges passed up my car or were overheard saying don't bother looking at that one it's not worth it. I'm not intrested in trophys but if they take your money they should give every car [no matter what condition] that paid equal time during the inspection process,if they can't do that then only allow show worthy cars in [lot's of shows do that here]. I go to the free cruise ins i have a great time and some of them give out some nice door prizes and all have discounts on food also.

charging the people with the cars reminds me of back in the day when i thought i was a rock star , they had these things called " PAY TO PLAY". The bands had to pay a fee and sell tickets in order to be seen......was bullshit then and still is !
