$500- 68 charger

It kinda hurt to do it but I cut a hole in the trunk floor for the fuel cell lines. Now I'll make some braces for underneath to mount the cell solidly to comply with the nhra rules.

I exchanged the black batt box for a red one. Not that I'm that concerned about the color as far as what looks better but I think the red one will be easier to see around it while working on it or in that area, etc..

Love the rim choice, that's going to be one sweet ride.

I really had a hard time deciding between 6" or 4" on the width. Wish they made a 5". I finally said since I will be driving on the street some I should go with the 6". But I do want a fairly slim tire on the front. Haven't figured out the front tire size yet.. Below is the rim that I'm thinking about for the rear, 15x10 with 5" backspace. Kinda pricey but I need a 5"bs and not many made with 5"bs that I like. The 5"bs will give me 3/4" clearance on all close spots on the 315/60-15 M/T tire.

I made some brackets out of 1/8 steel to weld in under the trunk floor for the fuel cell. They'll tie into the trunk crossmember and the rear crossmember. Also found some rubber spacers to go on top and bottom of the tank tabs. Then bolting it in with s/s fasteners, after installing some red and black astro turf. And noteworthy, it's been six years today since I started this thread, way to long.. Happy New Year everyone!

Ready to weld, tomorrow maybe. Not looking forward to the upside down welding. I'll have the ear plugs in for sure.

And face shield along with everything else required for laying under a shower of sparks. Everything is looking great! Keep up the good work. You have had 6 years of good progress.

My welding hood covers my face pretty much but a red bb finds its way to somewhere on me most every time. I got it done today tho without any burns. I carved a piece of s/s plate to cover the stock fuel filler opening in the trunk floor. I'm going to attach it on top of carpet and cut holes with rubber grommets for vent lines etc, that are near it and need to go out of the trunk.

Got a few more goodies. I've started working on getting the motor ready. It is the 440 street stock that I'm putting in for now until I have time and bucks for the 400/512. I need an aluminum water pump and not sure if I need the long or short shaft one. What is the difference for? I'm thinking maybe a/c or not? And where is the best deal for one?

Just caught up on your thread, and I immediately thought of Johnny Cash’s “one piece at a time.”

I really admire your steady progress and great work.

Got the trunk carpet cut. Will use small amounts of glue to hold it in place so it won't be too hard to remove if needed. Also found some interesting photo setting options on my phone, kinda neat.

I painted the motor today and started putting shiny stuff on it.
It figures, I spent $200 on the arp bolt kit and the 1st bolts I try for the valve covers are too short.

I guess that is what I get for trying to get fancy with the arp ss bolt kit because I'm going to have to give it a thumbs down imho. For one thing the heads/wrench size are so small. For instance, the stock intake bolts have a 9/16 head, the arp intake is 3/8. What kinda dummy came up with that idea? Anyway I went ahead and put them and some other ones on. But had to go to lowes and get some longer bolts for the valve covers, which are the only bolts I really needed to begin with..lol.... I don't mind spending tons of money on this car when I get good stuff but man it hurts when you spend a lot of money on junk!
