$500- 68 charger

I had been calling the body shop owner and leaving messages with no response for about a week, so I feared the worst and thought that the guy may have closed shop and skipped town, and who knows where my car was. But I got a call this morning and now I know and can tell what has happened with my car. The call was from a cousin of the shop owner who told me that the owner was in jail in another state 900 miles away, with 4 felony counts and no bail. I was going to meet with him a week ago when he cancelled our meeting due to some family problems. Apparently the problems escalated. But anyway long story longer, The cousin is meeting me saturday at the shop so I can get my car., Because it appears the shop owner may be busy for awhile. He was not able to call me while in jail but he finally got the message to his cousin to call me and give me my car.
This situation is a testimony to my ignorance. I haven't mentioned this before but this body shop was not my 1st choice, and not the old guy that my uncle had recommended as I mentioned way back. The old guy was too busy with other cars and having trouble fitting my car in so I went with the guy that's now sitting in the pokie. Now I'll have to beg the old guy to finish what the other guy started. And yes, it's going to probably cost me twice as much now in the end.

Really sorry to hear about your situation and best of luck getting your car without any further hassle.

Man that really sucks. I have customers who have had similar stories and yes it usually costs much more to pick up a project that has been already started by someone else. We're picking up a project from another this weekend for a customer and his story is so similar. But his is a Hemi Daytona with missing parts that we have to chase down.

Maybe I'm on one of those car shows where they create a doomed situation prank then surprise me with the car completed and maxed out to my dreams., Hope they put in the 572 alum-hemi.

Scary stuff! I hope it works out for you.

Once upon a time, I worked for an engine builder as their installer. The owner was pretty cool to work for at first, but then things changed.
He was acting weird, almost like someone bipolar lol. I got bad vibes and yanked my few snap-on's out of that shop tout suite! The sheriff chained the doors the very next day. Turns out he was snorting up his revenue stream and lost it all. I don't think anyone's car got caught in that mess...but I'm sure glad I got my tools out in time.

Got the car back with no problems., it wasn't a prank tv show,lol.. The body smoothing is still only about half done. Not much more progress was done since the last pics I posted of it. Now to find someone else to finish the blocking and paint it.

Great news that you got your car back . . . so sorry it wasn't a TV prank and your car was totally bitchin ! ! !

Bet that's a load off your mind . . .

Drama sucks. Relieved that your car is safe. It's worth a whole lot more than $500 now.

WOW! Sorry to hear about the fiasco. What is it with body shops, seams like your always hearing about shady deals associated with them?

That really sucks but very good you got the car back and it wasn't sold for his crack addiction etc lol. At least the cousin got word to you as a lot of people would have just said screw it.

Good luck finding another shop.

Glad to hear your going to get your car back. Bummer your going to have to wait longer to get it painted though.

I may be taking it off the trailer soon and try to finish up what's left of the filler and blocking, or at least get it closer to primer ready. I figure that could help me keep the bill for final paint a little lower..

Here is one thing I need to fix, I thought I checked these when I put the tail together and thought they were good but now I think not. I could take the easy way out and blend them in seamless with fiberglass-filler.? What do you guys think I should do? Don't you think that is too far off to try to live with?

I adjusted mine to where some areas overhung a bit so they could be filed down minimizing the filler and used just a bit of All Metal to finish it off. I know some would be **** about adjusting the quarter but if everything is lining up beautifully accept a piece of trim I'm fixing the trim.
