$500- 68 charger

Yea I've been waiting a while for this painter to get to me but he probably would have had it done by now if I had just taken it to him first instead of the last guy.
But at least I know this painter will do a super job. He is talked about highly in this area as "nobody better". He does cars that go thru the local "classic car gallerys"., like this place I went by the other day. It blew my mind at how classy it was. Not many mopars but still cool. One of my late uncle's cars was there. I had 20 of the shrimp hors d'oeuvres.

Picked up the 440 today. Went by the car wash on the way home and cleaned it up a little. Found out it is not an HP 440. Stamp says H 440, which means it was built in 1972, then below that it has 1 2 3 2. I think that means it was assembled Jan/23/72. It has some red sealant in spots so it has been apart before.

It seems to be in very good condition, no sludge and turns thru nice. Compression check to come.

Nice score, any updates on the Charger, gotta be killing you?

I talked to the painter about 2 weeks ago and he said he'd be ready to do it in Oct. At this point he is the only guy I trust to do a great job and not rip me off.. And, yes it is killing me waiting., but at least now I have a motor to play with/work on.
Can anyone confirm that the crank in this 72-440 is forged? Weren't the 440 cranks all forged around that year? There is a pic of the harmonic balancer and the part #, I thought. Isn't that the smaller balancer that comes on the forged crank?

Have the block sonic checked and magna fluxed to prevent wasting money on a block that isn't worth the effort. Just my 2cents worth.

The cam they picked for they're build was for a light car with low gears & 4000 stall. May be a bit much for the street. But if your car is going to be mostly strip then it should be ok with a good stall convertor.

Yea I see what you mean. Not sure if I want a stall that high. I have a 4.56 gear and there will be a very small amount of street driving. I will probably change a few things on their recipe to fit my plans. I may get one of those package deals from Edelbrock where you get a set of heads, a cam, and intake all matched for each other. I still have a while before the motor will be needed so lots of time to figure that out. I'll be needing to throw all available money at the paint job soon anyway, I hope., so supermotor may have to wait it's turn.

Might want to look at the trick flow stuff. If you were to go with their 270 heads cam & intake you could swap it straight over to the stroker when you do it. Are you planning a hood scoop? Might be tight on clearance there.

Will do! A hood scoop wouldn't be a problem if needed. I'm planning on a glass hood anyway.

That looks like a Nov 12, 1977 casting date to me.
Yea it does kinda look more like a 7 than a 1 but I'm sure it is a 1 since the engine build date stamp is H, which is 1972. It was cast in Nov of 71 but assembled and stamped in early 72.

I was thinking similar.. I think the 400 block I have will make a better race/stroker motor. That way I won't possible destroy a nice and getting kinda hard to find 440. I think the intake won't work on both tho, right? 400 is a b/b and the 440 is a r/b. No biggy tho, I'll just have an intake for each if that is the case. I may just build the 440 to be more streetable, get the car rolling/running and then later build the 400/512 more for just racing. Would the headers interchange, 440 to 400?
