Since you've started the body work why don't you do it all and then let the painter do a fine tune once over? Just curious.
Well, that's a good question and a good idea. The body work is way past started tho, not so much by me as by the previous painter/body man, but it still needs a bit more. I was so lacking in confidence till now I wasn't doing much at all. I am feeling better about doing the bodywork but now I'm out of time since the painter/body man is going to be calling any day for me to bring it and I can't put him off or I'll lose my chance for him to do it, he is well booked. He won't have near as much to do now to smooth it out, hopefully..

Every day you work on it could be money saved. Maybe give him a call and see where you are in the line up. Just a suggestion and not trying to push.

I'm steady working on what I can everyday,.. and I'm next in line fer sher, just wait for him to call. Confident it will be any day, from our last convers.

How ya doin Kid?
Funny you should ask,. I guess this is what can be filed under "everything happens for a reason". The painter is still stalling me, but I have found more things that need fixing before he gets it. Like the rear window area where I replaced the channel. I don't know why I had not checked this before now. I taped the trim together exactly where it was prior to my removing and set it in. The fit was pretty bad as can be seen. So I am about to mix up some of the bondo-glass and fix it., hopefully.. Also going to fill the seams on the dutchman to sail while I'm at it since one is a little too gappy..

What did you fill the Dutchman panel with? I'd be leary filling that without welding it solid and sealing the bottom? Flex in that area will crack fillers and moisture getting to it from underneath can cause the filler to bubble. Just giving you a heads up bud. Looking really good!

Thnx.. Yea, I have heard and seen how seam filling will crack. I used the bondo-glass that I showed earlier. It has fiber-glass mixed with it and doesn't crack near as easy as regular bondo/filler. I'm using it in a lot of the more critical spots that need filling. I have a bud that filled his dutchman seams in 30 years ago with regular bondo and they haven't cracked, and he doesn't have any chassis stiffening. That kinda made me a little less worried about filling them but I'm still gonna keep my fingers crossed. And I'll spray some undercoat underneath also.

I welded my on the top first. I figure with racing it would be a stress point and would crack if I just used filler. I do like the cleaner look.

I've been getting a lot of work done. Still on hold with the painter. I'm about ready to find someone else. He's has strung me out way too long. But till I find another painter I'll keep plugging along. The right rear quarter was really lumpy so I've been smoothing it out. Also worked on the door gaps. I've got them straighter now but will adjust closer after motor and all else is installed in case they change.

Looks great, before long you'll be hanging plastic, wetting the floor and painting it yourself.

Either find someone else, or just do it yourself. If he's been putting you off to get it to him for 6 onths, it'll be that long or longer for him to do it probably. As much body works as you've done, you should be able to get a pretty good deal on it.

Looks like you've come a long way n you have room in your garage to try it your self, just go to your local building Centre n get a roll of vapor barrier n make a portable room to at least apply a good coat of primer n you could start on the inside of car n under side of hood n deck lid n doors just to get the feel of it

The painter must be reading my thread, he called me today..... Halleluyah! I'm taking it to him Saturday..

It is at the bodyshop! Took it today and had a long talk with the painter. He was pleased with the work I had done already and seemed confident he could make it look good. He liked the plan of shiny black, with a vinyl red tail stripe. Now for the long wait.. Guess I'll tinker with the 440 for something to do, and finish painting the roll bars.
