572-13 Indy Heads or B1 Brodix?

I agree with SSR unless you get a deal that no one can resist go with the B1's my experience with Indy has made me reluctant to deal with them ever again good luck with your search

Cab's been around for years. He posts on Moparts nearly every day. Knows his way around the block. Personally you can meet your target with -1 Indys. There are a TON of them around used. Watch the cam timing and make sure you have a lot of compression. That will crutch your altitude issue. At 3500lb you will need 700hp at your altitude to run 10.0. My 572" Indy has never been on a dyno but the calculators say around 875. Other N/SS cars I race with similar combo's run slower at the same weight have dynoed over 900hp

Thank-You again Doug!! Cab would like to build my 572ci and is recomending the B1 originals from Koffel's. I appreciate your input on the -1 Indy's as others have said the same thing. I want someone to build this torque monster for me who knows what their doing. Cab does seem to know more than most do but, frankly I've never heard of him before and he lives a good 500 miles away from me. AND he's quoted me 20K with a new World Iron block and new B1's for the build. JEEEZ......That seems like a lot to me?
Doug W.

I built my own from used parts. It wouldn't surprise me to come to 20K with new stuff and someone else doing the labor. If my stuff was new I'll bet new there was over 18K in parts in mine. That being said with used stuff and a stock block you could easily build a -1 motor for less than 10K. My friend bought a used B-1 528 w/ KB aluminum block for 10K this summer.

You raise another qustion for me regarding the block itself. Cab much prefers an Iron Block to an Aluminum block. He says the ring seal and hp is better in an Iron Block. He has no specific data to support that premise though but I'm trusting his knowledge on the issue. My concern is this-I already have a heavy all steel car at 3900# (with me inside) and adding another 100+ pounds to the nose is not desirable. It could also change the way the car reacts off the line. I know KB makes a Aluminum block which has a steel dry sleeve which may be a better option for me.
Well anyway thank-you all for your thoughts and opinions.

I'd like to try the aluminum block myself. KB is a nice piece but too much $ for me .They're $7K new. 6-8 month wait to get one as well. If I do it it will be an Indy. You can lighten up the car as well. Mine is 3130 w/o me, all steel except the hood. You could always build a turbo. My sons 360" 62 Plymouth runs 9.80s@137@3800 lbs in street trim.

bobtile and TheGodfather,
I went with Todd Marsh at The Moparts Connection (Marsh Performance) on My 572-13 Indy heads and other parts.
He is the one to deal with rather then going straight to Indy. He bought the heads bare and My other parts, and CNC
them with better flow than Indy. He is great to deal with and really knows his stuff, and prices are the same and even better on other parts. He will answer any question you have , and let you know what he recommends but lets you make the decision , and not try to push the expensive parts.
Highly recommend Todd.

Joe34, dvw, Superstockracer...........Thx much again for the friendly advice. Lots to consider.

Joe34- 1) Do you have Todd Marsh phone #? 2) Did Todd do your 572ci build? 3) What block did you end up with?

Superstockracer- You mentioned earlier that the Indy Aluminum Maxx Block needed way too much work. What exactly did you mean and do you have any personal experience with their Maxx Block?

Indy block is fine if you have them clearanced for aluminum rods or a big stroke crank. I just bought 2 new indy blocks this past year and 1 KB hemi block.
I also had them lifter bore bushed as well and drilled for hydraulic oiling. It gets pretty spendy when all said and done.
Almost the same as a KB block without the wait.
If you're in a rush or don't want to wait get the Indy block. Both are fine pieces IMO
But after all maching done you'll be over $6400.00 a piece

We just got a pair of B1 originals in the shop that someone else has already "ported". Now we get to try to "fix" them. Here are the as received flows from our bench. 2.30" intake. Was shocked as to how heavy these B1 heads are, have a lot of aluminum in them.

Todd has a web site (The Moparts Connection) Phone # is 336-283-0800 he is located in Linwood N.C.
Todd got all the Indy parts from indy for Me. So I could deal with him, have heard horror stores about dealing with them direct. He did the full port job on My heads, and I got the other parts through him also. Great prices and he won't gouge you. Super guy to deal with. Only had phone contact and E-mail, since I live in S.L.C., Utah.
I build My own motors. Using a Mopar P5153860AB block.
Here are the Head flow #s.

If you get a hold of Todd Marsh tell him Joe from S.L.C. UT. said hello.

seems they stalled out after 0.700" lift
too big in the wrong places ??,
took too much out of the floor ??
or turbulence creating havoc on port velocity ??,
who ported them originally ??
those #'s really aren't that impressive "AT ALL"

I'm sure you'll {or Cody maybe will} get them to flow much better...
cool stuff IQ52, keep us posted
thanks for taking the time & sharing

It's been my experience that a port will generally stall because it is too small. You look at these B1 ports and wonder how in the world they can be too small.

Hello Joe34
Yes I race at Firebird Raceway in Emmett, Idaho. Firebird was started in 1969 by owner Bill New. Sadly, Bill past away about a year ago but his three sons run the track very well now seemlessly. Great bunch of guys and very oriented to the racers. Racing action pretty much every weekend during the Spring, Summer and through mid October at the famous Halloween Classic. I have never raced at Rocky Mountain but have raced at Las Vegas, Woodburn, and Seattle.IMG_3121.jpg

Thanks a bunch for the info about Todd's where abouts etc. Sounds like you're very happy with him and his service.

Great "looking" pair of 63's you have.
Good luck on your motor project.
I'll see if I can make it to the Halloween Classic next year, heard it's a good one.

Bob if you do I want first dibs on the Stealths you have!

Just for comparison nothing against the B1 heads wish I could have gotten a set but I did get the Victor Max wedge heads cnc ported and with just a 45 degree angle on the seat not a full valve job here are the flow numbers
