'62-'63 Factory Fuel Line

Hey all you '62-'63 B-body owners.

Anyone out there who has replaced the factory steel tank to fuel pump line. I'd
like to replace the stock line with direct replacement 3/8 line. Can that be done
without a lot of underbody disassembly??

I'm not sure if my 64 is any different than a 62-63's fuel line but there was nothing to disassemble. Mine being a convertible, it has torque boxes and was tough to install the 5/16 line in the stock route.
 
I did it on a 65 Belvedere recently. no big deal. But be prepared to do plenty of finessing. Also might help to have a few extra line clamps, as you may screw a few up.
 
Guys. Thanks for the reply. I think '62-'65 are probably pretty much alike. Mine presently has so much OLD undercoating on it that it's hard to tell what is what
underneath. Sounds like the switchover is doable with out a lot of swearing.
 
I replaced my factory 5/16" with 3/8" stainless. Bought the line from Finelines. The fuel line was a little long up at the engine compartment but managed to use up a little of it at the other end. I try to lay it next to my original one and with a tubing bender match it up before installing it. The 3/8" clips that I bought were junk. No memory like the original 5/16" ones. I used a band type clamp here and there for added security.

Don't forget the ground clip at the gas tank sending unit. Your guage won't work without a good ground there.

If there isn't a lot of swearing, You are doing something wrong! There should be ample swearing!!
 
When the original owner installed the fenderwell headers he cut the original fuel line halfway up the car and used a piece of copper tubing up to the pump. Then wire tied the copper tubing to the torsion bar! When I put the new tank in I left what's left of the original line and got lines from NAPA and routed the fuel line around the cross member.
 
Hey guys, I'm back. For those of you that have replaced OEM tank to pump fuel lines on a '62 to '65 B-body I'm wondering how difficult it is to install the aftermarket line
where it crosses over the top of the front sub-frame to the fuel pump side of the frame horn . Looks like some wrestling with the line may be involved. Also, I'm guessing the lines come from the vendor bent in a couple of places to ship.

It's not too difficult. It's a long run from there to the back of the car so you have that whole lenth that flexes outward to allow you to route it through the frame. The rear of the line goes through the fender well, with the wheel removed. Remove the rear first.

They do bend it for shipping. I bought mine at a show so it was straight. Try to remove your old one without bending it up so you can lay the new one next to it. Then make adjustments if they are needed. Found the one that I bought to be a bit long at the engine compartment. No problem bending it at a couple of places to shorten it up.
 
Mine shipped with 2 bends from Fine Lines. Rolled out just fine. But I agree with Kid, in that it is a little long up front, which makes it a little tricky through that area. Have a couple of drinks when you get to that point......to calm you down...... Be patient and it will all work out with lots of Profanity!!

I did mine on jack stands. You kind of screw the line through the frame up at the front. ( 3-2-1

I'm working on new stainless brake lines. I haven't gotten it finished but I do have the front to rear line in place. Rear is on jack stands, front is on the tires. The only real difference is the fuel line goes over the rear axle to the tank.

I failed to mention I did it on my lift. If you have a friend with one, Buy him a Steak dinner!
 
Absolutely dinner in trade for the lift. Has everyone whose done the change out
used FineLines? I've noticed that Right Stuff makes them as well. Anyone used their
lines??? Any other vendors out there?
