'62 LA headers?

So.. i bought a set of used headers here that i didnt notice are 2.5" collector and i would rather have 3" unless someone can tell me 2.5 is fine. I can re-sell them, no biggy.. My issue is looking at headers basically everything is listed for b-body LA from 67 and up.. is that just due to the LA coming out at that time? and should 67 b-body headers work on a 62 b-body? Trying not to spend crazy money for headers and places like summit don't list vehicle fitment very well..

P.S. need something that will clean power steering
 
Don't sweat the 2.5 collector, probably a good idea with a smallblock.
The only answer is to try them.
And yes there were no LA engines in 62-65 b body's.

Thanks, yeah i just wanted to confirm that the later b-body and early used the same basic engine bay so i don't get the wrong thing. I will probably use these for this year since i'm just staying with a 318/trickflow then get something better when i do the stroker. thanks

The problem I think you'll find is, clearance from the idler/pitman arms to the tubes.
The engines are pushed fwd compared to the 66 up siblings that most headers are designed for.

Ahh k.. i thought it was like 1 year that was forward or something odd...

Isn't the 273 an LA motor? I pulled the 273 from my 65 Belvedere wagon and installed a late 70s LA 360. I bought the shorty Shummacher headers. They were a little pricey but I also added the ceramic coating. They just dropped right in with only one pipe that needed to be dinged on the passenger side. Sometimes you are better off spending a little more money to save a lot of aggravation later on.

They were a little pricey but I also added the ceramic coating. They just dropped right in with only one pipe that needed to be dinged on the passenger side. Yeah, always costs me more when i try to get by cheaper
 
Maybe more work than you want to get into, but putting in a '66-'67 K-frame will move your engine and transmission back. This K bolts right in, but will likely entail a change of driveshaft length. A 904 transmission will fit in the smaller '62-'65 transmission tunnel better than a 727, with this engine setback.

Yeah... wishing i had gone 66+ honestly at this point... i had asked other people and was told the motor is in the same spot.. so no idea WTF at this point
 
The only other thing about the shorty headers is that I had to install an oil filter relocation kit. (Top center of pic) The stock filter would be sitting on the header.

I have both '64 and '67 Dodge B-bodies with 440's in them. The engine in my '67 is about 1 1/2" closer to the firewall. To accommodate this engine setback, Chrysler enlarged the size of the transmission tunnel. So, the front floors are also different between the two generations, as well.

fun :) I need to get the motor out of my car, everything is unbolted i just don't want the space taken up in the garage :) plus need people to pull the hood.. almost wonder if i could get it out with the hood on.. I could swear on mine the motor mount bolts went vertical into the K-frame and they are huge rubber blocks.. will figure it all out once i pull it

it's a poly in there right now... so... no way to do that.. i will prolly get the old motor out and mock the new one in just to see how things will fit.

Thanks, i bought a set of the old dougs that were for sale here but they are 2.5" collector.. if they fit they will get me through the year, i will keep these in mind, I have the older style K-Frame which puts the engine forward an inch... with the old style flat mounts though i should be able to move the engine back pretty easily by modifying them.. will see how it goes
 
No. I thought about that after I posted. I believe they fit P.S. but double check their web site.
I did use the 63 Poly K frame with Schumacher mounts.
