Thanks for replies. It's a 63' Polara 500, H.C. Max Wedge, I have been told and there is some paperwork stating that there were 7 63' 500's built, 5 L.C. and 2 H.C. The H.C. were 1, 3 speed and 1 auto..
What in the VIN would dictate the stage I/Satge II? the build date was 10/62 so I would think it would be a stage I. I would be willing to send you the VIN in a PM if you wouldnt mind helping me out.
Thanks
63 Polara 500 H.C. two door hardtop = 7 manual trans. and 12 autos.
Vin will tell you if its stage one or stage two plus options as stated before.
6 H.C. manual stage ones and 11 H.C. auto stage one.
1 H.C. manual and 1 H.C. auto stage 2 were produced according to the book.[/QUOTE]
If your build date is in 62, it would be a stage 1, stage 2 was out after may of 63. The serial number will not give the build date. Engine is stamped with date for machining or assembly, I have been told it was after machining. early engines will be month and year, later engines are stamped month, day,and the number that the engine was produced on that day, 01 for first, 02 for second ect. The SO number on the fender tag will tell you the scheduled assembly date, also the radiator support stamp will also..Hope this helps
The pad stamping tells you when the block was machined/assembled. The casting date on the side of the block is just that, the date when the block was cast. The pad stamping date can be a good while after the casting date. On my engine, the casting was Sept 62, the pad stamp is Dec 62.
Anyone have a lower font valance for sale? this car was raced and i spent many many hours removing spotwelds and replacing pieces..making good progress
I have the 63 Dodge book by Darrell Davis that has all the info including the vin's of all the 63 Dodge Max Wedge cars built. I am thinking GoldenCommando has the same book by the info he has given. If not I can look up the vin also and get you the info you need but it sounds like GoldenCommando is taking care of it for you. If I can help with anything just let me know. Oh and we will need pics of the car when you can get them. Good luck , Ron
Strange how the area where hood bracing was removed ( at the factory) has rust .As if the bracing was on the hood for a long time and just removed recently?? or maybe it was never painted after brace was removed?
Is it a used hood?
Do you have all the pieces & running gear?
This is a good I picked up from someone that modified it, the original hood was beyond saving. Everything matched up on the cuts. Ill pot some more, there has been a lot of progress since these were taken. I have 90%, I am missing a few pieces of stainless.
