I recently picked up a complete A833 from bellhousing to ball and trunion flange. It even still has what I’m assuming is the original Hurst Competition Plus Shifter. I didn’t know what I had at first. I was just looking for a four speed and scattersheild for my 48 Plymouth coupe. The Craigslist add said old cast steel bed, so I was assuming it was an Ansen, RC or Wedge Engineering one. Once I figured out what the bellhousing was...I wondered if the old trans was from the same car. I know the trans is an early one because it doesn’t have the vin pad and because of the output flange, but how do I know if the trans came with this bellhousing originally?

gotta be an early one with that companion flange I have a 62 complete burred somewhere was for a 62 Plymouth 2 door wagon project- (was 318 poly but I had a year correct 413...
car got stolen but I still have the rear side glass and tail gate glass if someone needs it
was a 3 speed car- the BIG 3 speed like came in early Max Wedges (to stay on topic)
there are those that can help with the numbers but I'd
count the splines and post
measure the bell-housing hole and measure the trans front bearing holder and see if they are the same and post the dimension(s)
good find

Ok. It’s the 23 spline input. I’ll have to measure the hole after work.

good see if the tranny size and bellhousing match lots of variations over the years

Well apparently I’m an idiot...the bellhousing is 64/65 HEMI

Other than spline count...is there anything on an early case to say what it was from?

Output flange is 64 or 65. Long tailshaft is for a B body. I see what could be a casting date, it looks like 10-3, which could be Oct. 1963. If that is the case ( p. I.) then it is probably a 1964 trans.

Well from everything I can find. The Bellhousing is either 65 B Body race Hemi or 68 A body lightweight race Hemi. From what I find they both used the same casting numbers. The machines clutch linkage mounting holes match the 65 pattern.
The only thing I’ve found wrong is a modification that I’m assuming was to make clearance for headers....
