The seal end of the coupler is so close to the exhaust manifold it cannot rotate without hitting. The car is new to me and not sure what has been previously done. Could a wrong p/s box, or incorrect exhaust manifold be the blame? I'm real sure it has the correct coupler and have checked alignment of steering column, motor mounts and k-member.

The engine is a 1978 440 with casting number 4006630-440-4. I assume the exhaust manifolds are the same vintage. The p/s gearbox is from an a-body but looked identical to the old one.

Does as anyone have any advice for transplanting a 1958 imperial 392 into a 1967 Charger?

Welcome to FBBO

maybe try & post this types of questions in
many of the other forum sections that are specific for your build

like in one or a couple of the following;
General Tech forum
Suspension, Brakes, Rims & Tires forum
your specific year make model forums
or even General discussion forum
members restoration, etc. etc. etc.

this is the welcome wagon
it's not intended as a Q&A tech forum section,
it's mainly for intros & getting to know each other & some photos etc.
it does not have as many viewers as allot of the other specific forums

anyway good luck with your issues & happy Moparing
