Hey Guys....sorry for asking so many questions but need help with how the carpet is mounted to the rear upper panel. I know the lower part of it is glued but what are the holes for in the panel? Is there a trim piece that goes there or is there a clip that pushes through the vinyl upper portion of the carpet trim? Pictures attached.....any help is appreciated.

two coats of adhesion promoter for vinyl/plastics followed by SEM 15243 satin black paint for vinyl or plastics. I have done the dash, console, and the console pad....plus the upper panels.

The holes are for the chrome trim.. the trim goes over carpet . I would suggest double fitting prior to glue. then glue and use a hot knife to burn the holes from the back.. so the pins on the chrome strip go in easy and dont bend and break.. the pins are easliy bent.. and will break if not careful..

Chrome trim....wow...I have not come across those trim pieces. I will go through the boxes again. Can you give me an idea of what that trim part looks like....width....preformed...???

Carl

1/2 inch high , total length of panel.. the trim sits over top of the carpet. the welting should sit level with the horizontal line, then chrome over top.

thank you......I will look for the trim....hope I can find it.

Mine may be the same Mike.....I will go through the trim I have left, but I do not remember seeing anything that would fit on that panel. I looked at pictures on the internet and found one or two with the trim but most were without trim.....so it is puzzling.

thanks guys

Maybe Model or option designaton of the car has something to do with it.. it is possible there are spring clips that secure the carpet to the plastic.. similar to the door panel clips..

thanks guys....I will be searching tomorrow. will let you know what I find.

struck out on finding any chrome trim, but I did find two straight strap type pieces with notches and punch outs that line up with the holes in the trim panel....so it is now more confusing. Does the vinyl attached to the carpet get wrapped around the metal strap and than attached to the panel followed by gluing the remainder of the carpet to the panel.....stressful...lol

Those straps look familiar to me. I'll look tomorrow for my "straps"
The chrome not so much.

I used this on mine.

no chrome trim on any car, it's those metal straps that hold the carpet to the panel....carpet is folded over the metal and then attached to panel

OK....it is the vinyl portion attached to the carpet that wraps around the strap and than mounts to the panel, followed by gluing the carpet to the panel?

Carl

It's flat metal with spikes in it just like the bottom of the front seats carl. There is chrome on the center console that the carpet goes under FYI

making some progress.....just a little. working on the carpet on the rear console. Carpet sets come with a pre-cut piece which I can fasten but the top edges will not be solid, just touching. Has anyone done this same process replacing the rear console carpet? I looked at my friends car and the original looks to be stitched together. I want this to look good, not shoddy. Any suggestions?

I'm not 100% sure what your asking here, but it sounds like your looking for something like Carpet Seaming Tape which is available just about anywhere, for joining two carpet edges together.

I thought about that, but wasn't sure how it would look or hold up. I still may do it....may go to an upholstery shop and ask.
