I Have a question about the clip placement on the rear panel. I measured the position of the holes for the clips on the inner Qtr. panel and compared those to the cut outs on the door card. See attached. The black "+" are where the holes in the inner panel are. They basically match up except for the second to the last which is about an 1" off. (Orange circle) No way in hell that will work! The other strange thing is the very random orientation of the cut outs on the panel. All of the holes in the inner panel are in a straight line. Why are the cut outs at various angles?

These door cards are from Legendary. Has anyone used the cut outs as fabricated?

Thanks.

I gave up on the wire panel clips. 1) Too hard and time consuming to cut the openings 2) the cut outs were mostly in the wrong place on the Legendary panel 3) almost impossible not to have a lump show on the vinyl side. What I used instead is a Christmas tree fasteners with a 9/32" diameter shaft. See attached. These are totally flat and smooth so two sided tape sticks like crazy to them. Got them from Amazon. Stick them in the holes protruding out just a bit. Then line up the panel and push in where the tress are. BAM! Easy!

You know there was no more than 2 clips in the panel from the factory, right?

I have seen one that was stamped metal and then the wire clips. I thought the stamped metal version was on early 60s. Any others? Using the Christmas trees make the issue of any misaligned holes and the time to cut the holes out go away. Took 5 minutes to install with the trees.

Gotta pry out, (very carefully) so that you don’t poke through the door panel vinyl - that little square of cardboard and then the wire clips slide right into place positioning the clip perfectly inline with the holes in the door.

I covered it in my Bee restortion. If you take the cutout totally out the clips show through the vinyl cover. I split them to half thickness with a chisel and then installed the clips..

Thanks for the replies. I started with the top one and the new repro clip left a slight bulge in the vinyl after chiseling the board out as you pictured. Maybe it was the repro clips not sure. I just didn't want that bulge and so went with the Xmas trees. Anyway, it is done now. There was a hole that was way off towards the bottom and not sure why that was done that way. Looks like you skipped that one as well.

Did you use the top row of clips? Since the panel is securely held by the trim piece on top, I saw no need to do those.
