I am having my motor re-built starting next week, from all stock to a moderately built 440 with new hooker full length super comp headers, 2" primaries, 3 1/2" collectors.

I pulled the motor with tranny installed no problems at all.

Dumb Question: Can I reinstall from the top down, the motor, tranny bolted up, and the headers pre-installed? Or, do I need to bolt the headers on after I put the motor and tranny in?

Thanks

I tried it with my 456" in a 69 Charger and it was a no go, I laid the headers in beside the fenders and then lowered motor and tranny in together. On my car laying the headers in first saves me from jacking the car 3ft in the air to get them in. The headers were Hooker Super Comps.

I don't think you will be able to drop it with the headers on, we had a 340 in a 1970 cuda with headers and a 440 in a 66 coronet and both had to be bolted on after the engine was dropped

Why don't you consider dropping the K frame, putting everything together and then lowering the car on it?

I would consider that, is there any threads or how to guides? My shop ceiling is not real tall, but might be dooable, more info and or pics would be great and thanks for your help.

Ever watch GraveyardCarz? They work on MOPARS, when they're not bitching and belly-aching - and that's the way they do it - usually they take the front suspension off with the K member and drop it along with the engine/trans in one piece and then separate it.
