Hi guys,

I know this has been asked numerous times...I’ve read all the posts I could find but I’m still not sure I have the definitive answer, so here goes...

With Magnum 500 wheels, will I be able to run 255-60-15 tires on 15x8 rims with 4.5” back space without rubbing issues?

Do 15x7 rims with 4.25” back space work/fit better with the same tire?

I stopped at 235 70R15's

It didn't look like there was any more room...my ride is a 66 Coronet...I would imagine it's the same.

I'm opposed to the stereotyping of Canadians, as looking like that.

What I found was once you got to a certain size, although it will fit in the wheel well, it’s hell getting the thing on and off the axle.

Yep, you can stuff the wheelwell, but you might have to let all the air out, or even worse, unhook the bottom of the shocks, and rear shackles, to get the wheel on. Even harder with long wheel studs for nhra compliance.

Yes, I’ve heard that can be a pain, but I have the tools and skills to fight that battle...I’m more concerned about whether they’ll rub or not.

Used a bottle jack to jack the spring down, had 2" shock extensions on the car.

If you only jack up one wheel with the other on the ground it will angle the rear axle and help slip the tires in there. If you lift the whole car on a hoist it makes it harder.

A 255/60-15 On a 15x7 will fit in and out with no trouble. If you want fitment troubles go for an 8” wide wheel

15x8 is not your friend on this body style. Avoid them if you don’t want rubbing.

I have one with 15 x 8 and I had to cut the lips and modify the outer wheel houses. You don’t need and 8 inch wide wheel on the street.

Plus they are more weight to rob power from your engine and brakes is another thing nobody except racers ever talk about.

15x8 with 5" BS is much better. 4.5" BS not good. 15x7 with a 275/60 is perfect. But a little more work to get on. 255/60 will fit a 15x7 in there with room to spare.

edit...the 15x7 is perfect with a 4.25 to 4 3/8" - 4.5"BS

4.5" BS will NOT work with a 8" wheel.. I ordered 5 1/4" BS when I bought wheels for my 67 Coronet and I would get 5 1/8" BS if I did them again...
I have 245 60 15 on my rear and they work fine, but they are the max in my opinion... Some people say you can go bigger but when I have seen there cars they are jacked up "downhill" cars....

Not true always. My 66 satellite has 55 year old worn out springs and 20 year old shocks. And the 275's fit pretty damn good.
