I decided to go with a thermal fan clutch rather than the non-thermal (torque) clutch on the fan while I was replacing the water pump and having the 26" radiator recored. Trying anything to get the temp down and not have to go back into it again.

Summit sent me a Hayden 2707 thermal fan clutch that is about 5/8 inch longer than the original and will hot fit between the water pump and radiator. Is anyone running a heavy duty thermal fan clutch that is the same length as the original - approximately 3 inches. The reviews on Summit indicate other have had the same fitment issue. Depth on the Hayden is approximately 3 and 5/8 inches. Ever site I look at has a picture and what theirs fits, but no actual dimensions on the part.

fwiw; pretty sure a factory thermal fan clutch won't fit a 4 row radiator.

The manual says to torque the clutch fan to the water pump at 15-18 pounds which is a little difficult with a seven blade fan and a 1/2 open end wrench. The space to work in is stupid tight and will be even more so with the shorter shaft. What is the recommendation here? Loctite and an effort good enough for government work?

A little dab of blue Loctite would not hurt. Doesn't take too much to get to 15 lb-ft of torque. I like my set of long handle boxed end Craftsman wrenches for that type work.
