67 R/T... Back to Life

I stopped by the body shop today and checked on our progress. Week 2.

Car was shot with primer surfacer and 220 blocking right now. First round of blocking is 75% done.

It's beyond me why these cars aren't at the top of the list in desirability, beautiful lines and the interiors are far better than the 68-70s. Looks great!

I agree. Wait until you see all the chrome that goes inside.

Lots of fun stuff today. It's time to start getting part put together and build out the front subframe. Engine and trans are back together again.

Engine mounts are service replacements. Bolts were all replaced, cross memeber was bead blasted and painted. Trans mount itself is the original, dated 33rd week 66.

Safer and alternator were rebuilt by a local shop called Springvale Auto Electric. These guy are we're doing this when the cars were new and we're lucky to have them around here. These are not restored parts to go win a big show but they're really good.

My started is not original to the car but it is the right part number. It was a 70's reman. Original date is 68 but you can see the other date stamp of 73. That's the rebuilt date code. I decided since this was the history of the car and it was the right starter I would keep it.

Next up, carb, fuel line, and distributor installed.

Carb is original, rebuilt resto at home. This is just cleaned up really well, no replating or anything. Original choke pull off. Date code is H6.

Distributor is the same, all original including the vacuum can. Date code is 42 6.

Coil bracket and distributor hold down are original. Bead blasted and new clear zinc.

Fuel filter was from Herb's. I'm not sure those clamps are right for a 67 but the car had a napa filter on it with spring clamps. I think the spring clamps are right but who knows. I can't image they would have used those over a worm clamp back then.

And today's payoff. I decided to paint the manifolds off the car and detail in some paint on the exhaust bolts to make it look like it could have been painted all together. New trans lines in also.

Had a couple hours to work again on the car today. I installed the alternator with all the brackets The hose stand for heater hoses is original to the car, it cleaned up very well. Date code on the alternator is 34 6. Again, the starter and alternator were rebuilt by a local company that does not specialize in restoration work. Both starter and alternator were cleaned up and rebuilt, my bill was just over $100.

Next was the trans cooler lines, these are from Inline Tube. Matched the originals well. Original clip below the starter.

Hoses were installed too, these are nothing special. Just unmarked service replacements.

I loosely installed the idler are and front strut rods. Mood bushings and idler arm.

Every once in awhile you get resto parts that are pretty good. I opened up my plug wires, these were from Herbs but they are Lectric Limited manufactured. Not only do these fit well but there were instructions as to which plug wire went to what cylinder, all you have to do is know what boot is one cap end and measure. Imagine that. Needless to say that took all guess work out of routing wires. I didn't need the date coded wires but these aren't that much more money than regular 'good' plug wires. 5 star rating for these guys.

All plug wire hangers are original to the car.

Had a couple minutes to work on this today. PS pump is resealed and installed. I used the hardware that was on the car, I have no reason to believe it was replaced. Top bolt is clear zinc with no washer and lower is phosphate with washer. The pump with installed bracket and pulley were all painted together from what I can tell.

Also note the heater hose clip is galvanized, last repop I bought was aluminum.

I also painted 5 steel wheels and rear end housing. PPG epoxy primer and JE enamel as top coat. These were all media blasted.

Very nice! I'm a little afraid to ask, but what kind of change to get your finish panel and taillight covers done?
