Well guys, I just got home and here's the result of my trip today.

The car didn't cut it for me. The 1st thing I saw walking up to the back of the car was those thick, black stripes with a thick paint edge that caught my fingernail and it wasn't a clean edge. I asked to see the 'one small spot of rust' and he showed me this.

It was the same, or a bit worse in the same spot on the passenger side. Another spot under the stripe on the dutchman panel, then one in front of the passenger door. I didn't look for more, or get under the car because I knew I was out. It was repainted with a metallic blue that I liked, but it was an old repaint with some fading and flaws, and the trim wasn't removed when painted. The original color was KK1 Light Turquoise Poly. It is an original 383 4 bbl car. The interior was likely original as it had some sun fade which was quite bad on the top of the rear seat back, and broken down foam on the driver's seat. I would want to recover it to satisfy me. There was enough chrome flaked of the top of the rear bumper to require a rechrome to look decent. It's straight and ran good (didn't drive it), and will surely sell to someone who can fix it, or live with it, but I don't think he'll hit $20k.
Thanks again to everyone with advice and info. I feel like you had/have my back. I figured out this is the 5th time I came home with an empty trailer. No harm, no foul. If my wife ever bugs me about my cars (she was encouraging this round), I'll mention how much I saved by not buying those cars. Maybe next time. At least I won't have to decide which one I have to sell to open up a parking spot.
Cheers to all! Doug
