Having trouble with 2 speed wiper in 68 charger, It works on both speeds, but from what I understand this should only work from the switch with ignition in accessory mode. This one works with keys in my pocket. I do have the column out from a rebuild but hate to reinstall everything with the access I have to wiring if this is a short or other wiring problem. Any thoughts? Drivin' me crazy :angryfire:. Oh, and I did replace the ignition switch just for the heck of it, it seems slower now when accessory is off, but still operates without it on.

there is a hot side on that switch, (extra male plug-in) you could have plugged the wrong wire into the back of the switch. I would look there first. you could also have a three speed switch on a two speed motor, ther is an extra plug-in because of a delay feature.

First, thanks for the reply! I believe all is original here (wiper motor/ harness/ switch), the original owner had unplugged the motor saying it must have a short because it was drawing the battery down, I tried a replacement unit with same results, they both operate without the accessory on. Replacing the ignition switch was the first move but only seemed to slow the speed when ignition is off. Is there a delay feature on 2 speed to "Park" the wipers that may be causing this? Thanks Again!

I don't believe so, I'll have to think about that one. They aren't supposed to work with the key off. Somehow it's getting current all the time, The only functions on the dash that have that are the flashers, headlight switch, dimmer switch, and cigarette lighter. I have a charger dash out, and will look it over to maybe make a possible suggestion. If the motor is getting current out on the firewall junction where it is plugged in, is another possibllity. Unplug it, and check for current out there with the key off, you shouldn't have any.

Ok, Spent most off the evening chasing what I believe is a man made electrical gremlin. Here's what I have now. Wiper motor reinstalled, column back in, new ignition switch installed. With key on wipers work flawlessly on both speeds and park perfect when switch is turned off. Now with key off the wipers will move very slowly when switch is turned on. There is power at the brown wire without key on. The switch, motor, connectors are all original and correct. Distributor was changed to electronic ignition but not much else seems disturbed. Gonna keep diggin', Thanks for the help!

wiper Issue

Brown wire on the firewall junction from the wiper motor to the firewall, or plugged into the switch? I can check mine tomorrow.

is the wire color brown from the motor harness that has voltage? I can look at the schematics to see where it goes.

Problem solved, extra brown wiper hot lead (for three speed version?) grounding out behind cluster. Thanks for the help!!
