68 Charger dream car

I'd part that car out without thinking twice about it. Save someone the heartache of trying to turn lead into gold.

Second generation Charger parts cars are a thing of the past.
Agreed. If the OP wants it bad enough he can fix that car! There have been worse looking chargers that have been brought back, although they do take a very long time to get done. If I were the OP, and in the interest of having fun with an old muscle car I would sell it and use that money to get a GM A body or mopar A or C body. There's some good deals out there these days and I bet that money would buy a running driving car.

I think that the OP has gotten scared off.
Not scared off, I never got any notifications about all these replies! Anyway, this project will be a big, time-consuming, expensive endeavor. I'm young and I'm not on some reality show deadline, so I think I'm going to stick with it. I see this as a challenge for myself. If it turns out to be too much for me to handle I know I can make a little off of this car. Like you guys have said the Charger market is insane these days. I have other mopars to play with if I get burned out or want to change projects. I will try to post updates here, but more consistent updates can be found on my Instagram @alecs_automotive_adventures

Good for you Alec! Keep at it and someday it will be done. A good friend of mine used to tell me when we were looking at seemingly impossible jobs that were thrown at us "it will never get done if we dont get started"

If you are going to build the car, do the front clip first, get the car true and square, then do the floor pan and trunk floor pan and go from there. My 71 Challenger convertible was totaled in an accident before I bought the car. I replaced the whole front clip from the tortion bar cross member forward. My friend put it on a 4 wheel alignment machine and the car was spot on and aligned perfectly. I have been enjoying the car for 22 years.

Been a minute since I last did anything with my Charger. A buddy and me just started pulling and tearing apart the damaged side of the car. The frame rail is surprisingly straight still, the frame horn and bumper bracket took the beating. The inner fender, core support, firewall, and cowl are still bent and buckled. I think if I got this on a frame rack the whole side of the car could get pulled back into shape.

Hopefully you can reuse what's there after hitting the rack. If not, at least the pulls will help get the surrounding areas back in shape so you can replace with other.

I had to do a similar fix on my RR, only not as extreme. The frame rail was pushed upward an inch and back 3/4". You would be surprised how easy it will bend once firmly bolted into a fixture. Getting it pulled back out far enough longitudinally will be the chore but not impossible you will probably have to straighten/replace the firewall and cowling first. Looks like a fun project!

Got a few more pieces pulled off of the car to better expose the damage. You can see the bent frame rail, buckled inner fender, and scrunched cowl. I recently found this 67 Belvedere shell that was parted out, I have a scheme to take the floor pan and everything forward and swap it into the charger as one piece. My floor pans are shot and this would save me tons of time and money, and lets me use original metal instead of modern repop stuff.

You could have the worlds first Belvacharger I suppose-

That's the best and quickest method IMO. You get that swapped and the project well be very well along. Charger backends are a nightmare to stitch together but they all need it anyway it seems, even the ones that look way better to start with.

What a project you have there. Wow. When I see something like that, I look at the status of my '70 Charger, with as much work as it still needs, and just feel a huge sense of luck and being fortunate.

Just as an aside...I wonder if the guys saying to sell it off for $15K as a parts car are the same guys who see parts cars like that and say it's not worth $3K...

I bet you’re correct on that assumption lol. This Charger is probably the only one I would be able to afford. Even parts cars prices go up every year and become that much harder to acquire.

I wouldn't skimp and on that car, it needs to go on a jig and have some proper amd floor pans put in... Save all you can and have it done right, they are so valuable and in the end it's worth it. Wish you all the best, it's a true classic!
