Around 9am just passing through Calgary, i took this picture when everything started to sink in. Here i Am, almost 1700 miles away from home in the middle of winter, to Pick up a car i bought over 12 months ago, and still have learned next to nothing about it and not seen a single picture, just word of Mouth and a lot of hope in Honesty and Trust. I think this was the first ever time i actually got nervous about the deal and wondering what i may have gotten myself into

I make the Phonecall and say i'm 10 minutes away, im told to pull into the back alley and the Garage door would be open.

Same picture again, as i just absolutely love this photo. A snow covered alley with the looks of no Activity for weeks, i slowly advance looking left and right at every garage, then i turn to my right and see this.

Sun God Rays beaming through the trees and all. It was meant to be. What a beacon!

I meet my friends Mother, and his Brother, for the first time and they tell me that the car was sitting on blocks, but they inflated the tires and threw them back on with a couple lug nuts. The hood was also not on the car and they put that on, but did not bother aligning it. No problem! i said. Grateful for any help.

And here it is. Confirmed, Purchased in 1995, cruised for the Summer, 318 was grenaded, and they set about installing a 383 over the winter, but never finished. So here it sat, since 1996, with a 383, throttle cable not connected, electronic ignition not fully wired up, and headers not connected to any exhaust.

Wow. Just wow. I was speechless for minutes. This car has so much presence, i just shuffled around it what felt like 10 times looking and touching. Then i finally shook out of it and thought hell, i better snap some pictures of this.

So here we go! As it sat for 20 years. Enjoy!

I pulled out of the Alley onto the main street and was still just Giddy after travelling 200 feet. i had to get out and look at the car more and take more pics. Funnily enough an opposing power pole laid shadow for an RT stripe. Ha!

Lots more pics to come of the Return Journey and actual look at the car and what i'm up against, but for now, lets just say i'm beyond happy with the result , i still cant believe its this nice.

Might get some more posted tonight, if not ill continue the pics and story later this week. Cheers Guys. Thanks for following along.

Beautiful. It shows they are still tucked away out there. Glad you enjoyed the trip and that the weather worked out for you. Congratulations, I'm so jealous (being it was in my neighborhood) but way more happy for you. You definitely are up there in the "how far did you travel for your car" club! You really earned this one. Can't wait for the resto thread, good luck, it looks great.

Wow! Awesome! Definitely better looking than I thought it would be too! Great start! Well done!

Thanks for the update, and congrats on your 68's safe journey home.

Very Glad to hear that you made it safe and sound.
and hey the charger looks Fantastic And you appear to be a man of Taste.
the Timmies!! lol
cheers!

ps dont forget to take pics as you go thru the tubs too,
it looks like christmas all over again :)

Have fun in resurrecting your new find!! Love the gold color on those cars! Best of luck to you!

Nice score. I'm happy to see that it worked out well for you.
I saw a roll-back type tow truck had first pulled the car out of the garage but it was later on the trailer behind the pickup. What happened there? Was the car hard to roll? I'd expect the drum brakes to sort of sieze up or maybe rust scale formed on the friction surfaces of the drums, making the car hard to roll.
Being a car without a vinyl top you have a better chance that there isn't rust around the rear window. I see the lower quarters will need work. How about the trunk floor? Those northern cars often have decent interiors and rusty bodies. Southern cars have less rust but the sun baked interiors are often cracked and brittle.
Again, I'm glad that luck was on your side. Winter is the worst time imaginable to travel North to get a car. Must have had some divine intervention. :headbang:

Thanks Guys! I was just amazed when i finally got to see the car, i was expecting it to be ROUGH. Hopefully this weekend ill have a bit of time to dig into it and see whats what, looking at the engine bay i don't think it will take much to fire it up.

Car appears to have Disc on the front, the rear drums were locked, I organized a flat bed since it was just so darn cold i didn't want to mess around with come alongs. It slid about 3 feet then both wheels broke free and it rolls now , quite easily. No problems there. I had the flat bed guy then dump the car straight on to the uhual trailer. He did an awesome job, very smooth, lots of care taken. Impressed.

Anyhow a few more pictures of the return home trip.

At the border, 15 minutes later, a couple of signatures and a big red stamp, the car is now a US Citizen. This was almost too easy, the Border guys were a great bunch, super helpful, cracking jokes having a good time. Very pleasant. No issues. Amazing how easy it was.

About 15 miles out of Butte, this was the worst weather of the trip, and it really wasnt bad. Just took it easy. Hard to believe this is a big highway when its dusted over like this.

Ive been to EK's Grave before, but i thought it would be cool to bring the car here for a picture, and return someday under its own power.

24132459916_7be8e943bb_b.jpg

I'm working on a Video that covers the whole trip, and an overview of the car now that its back home, im very very surprised again with how good it is. The trunk has some scale, but i really think it might be completely in tact. Crazy! its that neat.

More updates to come!
Cheers,
Sam.

That is an awesome story Swilling and thank you for sharing with us. Your excitement was almost palatable as you worked your way to your unseen treasure. I am sure it was all you thought it would be and more, I am envious. Keep us posted as to the rebuild with pictures and more of your artistic narrations.
