68 Charger restoration question

I have a simple question regarding the driver's side door. What is the purpose of this hole pictured? I think the the control of the remote mirror belongs in the perfectly round hole to the left, which is not pictured. I'm I right or wrong?

The second picture is just for fun. What started out as a job to get rid of the bad metal around the rear window and quarters seems to quickly be growing into a big project! :eusa_think: I'll show some more pictures as we go along.

I believe that little 1/4" hole is for the upper door garnish that snaps on. There should be 3 or 4 holes along the upper door for those clips

I have another question. What is the word on undercoating products? I have new trunk drop-downs and am looking at where the old quarter panels had factory undercoating on the inside. I'll be making a few minor modifications to the car and so I'm not looking for factory correct, but I still want to approximate the factory look where I can.

My car needed repair panels in that area too. I just sprayed in some rattle can rubberized undercoating to hide the welded joint.

Resto Rick has a nice product that closely resembles the stock undercoating. Bear in mind application plays a huge role in how it turns out.

WOW! Makes you wonder if they ever saw a body hammer? I guess once you find that it's a must to strip it all down to metal cause I wouldn't put anything past the person that did that haha....

It is remarkable how many dents and fender benders three coats of paint and load of bondo can cover up

Anyhow, I am certain I once saw a thread here on how to restore a 68 Charger Grill, but for all my digging around I can't seem to find it. Am I dreaming or is on here? Thanks!

looks like a great project that you have. I know that there were a few threads that talked about restoring grills. I did post some about the way I rebuilt my grill. Thanks for the link! I am 99% certain your thread is one of the ones I had viewed previously as I remember your pictures and discussion of the fiberglass backing. I am very impressed with how you fabricated the broken/missing tab from your grill. I haven't even considered fixing that . . .

We are getting close to putting the new quarters on the car and we were initially planning to spot weld the quarters at the roof seam, but over the last couple days have considered putting lead back in there. Do any of you have any recommendations or advice? Thanks?

I am wondering about the body lines on my 68 driver side fender. What is pictured is the lower front and rear sections of the fender. If you look at both pictures you'll see the black line marked on one, and and gleam on the other, what looks to be a subtle body line that breaks at a 45 degree angle. Am I seeing this right? It is hard to compare this to the passenger side fender because we have already done the body work and have it in primer. Thanks for the help!

the black line should not be,

the other line goes with the line in the door, also i see filler under that body line, the fender should have a low area under that line, most people fill it with bondo, but the depression follows the door & rocker.

Are the front and rear side markers on 68 Chargers the same? I ask because the rear marker fits body line through the quarter panel which makes sense. But on the fender the body line fades before the marker, yet the markers on my car could still accommodate a body line. I don't see this as a huge issue, I'm just curious.
