68 road runner restoration, don't laugh its paid for.

I made a mistake in the guys last name it should have been ray instead of roy sorry

I wonder if that was why you found some of the nuts loose on the carrier when you started working on the car. Let me know if you have any trouble finding parts. I have several 8-3/4" differentials laying around. I think I even have an extra 742 case. I put a Richmond locker in the sport satellite so I have those spider gears available.

Hey Jeff, the car is looking great. Any luck with the front turn signals yet?
You asked for some pictures of my current drag car project so here you go. I'll try to keep this short since it isn't a B body. It is a '67 A100 van. It is being built to look like it was built in 1969. It will have a 513 cubic inch RB engine that looks like a 426 max wedge. The tranny is a 727. It has an 8-3/4 rear end with 3.91 gears and a spool mounted on leaf springs with ladder bars. I moved the front springs under the straight axle to lower the front about 4 inches. It will be candy apple green when it is done. The first picture is the mock up engine when I was just starting to build the motor mounts. The engine is moved back 18 inches and down 6 inches from where the original slant 6 was. The second picture is the van before I started on it. The last picture is the engine that I will be using to dial in the chassis. I also threw in a picture of my '64 sport fury that I hope to start on someday. It doesn't look like much now but it is a documented 426 wedge 4-speed car.

Pretty cool! I wouldn't mind seeing more pics myself! Sorry to hear you having problems

Jeff, all this work and its beautiful! Hope you can get it fixed up good...
lol, I hope the warranty still good lol.. :)

I did originally buy the sport satellite to be a parts car for the road runner so using those spider gears does seem fitting. If the car still moves under its own power, it's probably not the spider gears though. Pull the carrier and the problem should be extremely obvious.

I pulled the left axle and it came right out, but the right axle wont come out for nothing. I used a 3lb slide hammer and the bearing came about 1/2 way out and stopped. It sounds metal to metal. Anyone with suggestions any help would be appreciated. I heated up housing so I know the bearing isnt stuck and it hasnt turned in the housing. Thinking maybe the splines are twisted on the end of axle.anyone encountered this?

hmmm...I cleaned out the spiders n my Cordoba back in the day and it still moved, but had a clunk to it.

If the bearing isn't binding things up, it has to be something with the splines. I haven't heard of those splines twisting before but it is possible. Usually, the axle will break right where the splines end. It is possible the end of the splines have been hammered on by something and are binding up in the spider gear. I would recommend using a boroscope to go in through the left side and see if you can tell what is going on.

I have to think it might be rust that's holding the axle in since the car sat for so long without being moved. If the axle was twisted it would be on the outside of the splines so I don't think that is the problem. Jeff, can you get your porta-power tip in between the axle flange and push it out that way? If not maybe a heavier slide hammer would work.

I wish I was still there. I want to see inside that rear when the center section comes out.

Well, I had to replace the whole rear. Got it back driving this weekend. I finished the dash tonight, installed the front bumper before the guys left. Then I installed the rt door trim. The cool thing about where I am now is everything I install looks better and better. Cant wait to get finished, patience is not my strong point. I noticed after I got the bumper on it looked even lower in the front. I also want to give a shout out to mike ferell the president of the mopar club here in savannah. He is one of the coolest car guys ive ever been around. Hes bent over backwards to help me with parts and advice. He followed me home when I bought the car and introduced himself. (Blessing in disguise) I owe him greatly.

Looks like dad was right (whod a thought? Lol) I got the rear on the ground and took the chunk loose. The carrier is all rusty. Im guessing its rusted in there. Gonna need a bigger hammer
