I looked at the electrical diagrams last night and then under the dash near the stop (brake) light for the reverse light switch and could not find it? I know the switch on my tranny is only a neutral safty switch.

Please help, I want to by pass this switch and hook up my B&M shifter back up switch.

If your car was a factory floor shift auto, then I think it is with the shifter mechanism. If not, then it's in the neutral safety switch in the trans

As said, if auto floor shift car it's on, or should be, the shifter, if auto column car it's, or should be, on the top of the column. 69 started the switch on the trans.

You sure about that? I don't remember my wagon having the switch on the column.

There is no switch any where on the column and this car is originally a column shift. I have followed the wiring diagram and I think the white (c) and violet (d) at the bulkhead are the two wires I need. I think the back up light switch must be near the neutral safety switch or part of the tranny neutral safety switch. If not I going into the drivers kick panel.

Yes, I'm 110% sure. I have a few of those switches around here somewhere.
Heres a pic from the service man. Most problems I have found with inop. back up lamps have been the operating levers as they are plastic and snap off.

Just saw another post with pic's of the switch on the column, check it out "need pic of 68 reverse light switch" It even has the broken operating lever I spoke of.
If you don't have the switch or the prevision for it on the column, the column has been changed to a 69, the switch area is all that differs.

I will take a second look at my shop manual, wiring diagram and take another look at the steering column. The wierd thing is I dont see a white and violet wire coming out of the steering column any where.

Thanks for the help guys.

It's not coming from the column harnes, it's part of the dash harness.

On my 68 Coronet, the switch is at the base (closest to the firewall) of the steering column (column-shifted auto) on the top side. It's a slight bear to deal with, but pretty simple to adjust if done correctly. There's a plug between the switch and the dash harness side of the wiring (as rrunner said, the wiring is part of the dash harness, not the column wiring harness). Off the top of my head I don't remember the wire colors.

If needed, I can snap a pic of the plug and post it, along with the wire colors.

Success

I spliced a wire into the violet (c) and white (d) wires before they go thourgh the bulkhead and they are for the back up lights. I think this is alternate wiring from the factory in case the car is built with a manual transmission. Touched the new wires together and voila I have back up lights. Now I am good to go! I thank you all for the help.
