69 Floor Shift Button Removal

How do you remove the little black button on the end of the A/T floor shift lever on a 69 b body? I found the Allen screw for the wood grained knob, but haven't found a way to (non-destructively) remove the button so the knob will come off.

IIRC, it's threaded on (RH threads). Shop rag around button, channel locks over that (just don't go gorilla on it...lol)
