I have a 1969 Roadrunner 383. The car is non power steering and non power brakes. The engine is entirely stock except for its been bored with new pistons.(as of right now) My first upgrade is going to be a set of tti 1 7/8 inch headers. I want to do an X pipe but have been told that an X pipe would hang really low. However I was told H pipe could tuck in nice and allow for plenty of clearance. Is this true? I wanted to go with Xpipe, because I have read that they always show an HP gain. Also does it make a difference if the pipe 2.5in vs. 3in? Thanks in advance for the response.

I've never noticed an X pipe hanging exceedingly low so I'd go with that.

I imagine you'll see the headers lower then the X pipe. Cant comment on HP gain using the X pipe verses H pipe.

I would guess on a stock 383 you would not notice any difference between a H and X-pipe. The H-pipe supposedly allows for clearance for overdrives (GVO) upgrades that an X-pipe won't clear. You might actually lose some power with a 3" system versus 2.5" system unless you are making serious power with a high compression motor. Best advise is to call TTI. Bet they know alot about exhaust systems.
