Seriously looking at doing an overhaul, keeping it "stock". What are some rough estimates on costs you fellas have encountered? Also, what are some good sources for parts? I would most likely have the machine work done and install most parts myself. Located in SW MO.

I am in the process of doing the same thing. My quote for boiled, magna flux, bored, decked and balancing full rotating assembly, install freeze plugs and cam bearings is for $800.00. Not sure if that is high or low. It is from a shop that builds race engines. Even though I am going mostly stock, I am comfortable with them to do quality work.

I had a 400 block boiled, bored and honed .035 oversize, cam bearings installed, rods re conditioned and assembled to pistons, rotating assembly balanced with Mallory Metal, and total was just over $900.

I also should have had the decks squared up. Later found they were about .008" higher at one end. Then you have all your parts to complete the bottom end. I used Ross Racing Pistons with 1/16 inch rings. My total bottom end with all parts including a used .509 cam came to around $3900. Heads are a whole other story. You can spend thousands there.

x2 on the heads. Thought about having the factory heads reconditioned so I could stay original. Its just cheaper to go aluminum

Nothing wrong with the factory heads for a stout street car. Get a hold of Jim (IQ52) on here and he can fix your iron heads up rather nicely. Summit is a good source for parts.
