69 sport satellite restoration.

Are you talking front or back glass? since the front is already broken, I'd suggest the dukes of hazard method.

(kick it out from inside the car)

but cut the back one out with a corded wire like a guitar string or piano wire or thin cable, 2 man saw action (with much care). They do make a wire saw sort of tool just for this too.

Then set it someplace safe.

Trunk floor as well as a bunch of the rest of the car looks very familiar to me, I'm just getting the back half of my 69 buttoned back together.

looks like your rust carries into the tailpan at the outer corners like mine did. i got by with cutting and fabbing patches for mine (tailpan)

I'd suggest RH/LH trunk floor halves, I snuck a one piece into mine but I had the LH wheel house cut open to be able to sneak that big pan in from the side. Yours look ok so I would guess your best entry path for new panels is through your trunk opening. So halves would be the way to go in that case.

Soon we'll get some sunshine and things will dry up for you, I for one can't wait for things to dry up and green up. I'm only 12 miles south of The Manitoba border.

so i got at the car for a bit today, till i got rained out. cut a piece of trunk pan out so i could see the nice rust hole in the frame better.got the bumper off too finally.notice the trailer hitch....Albtera folks for ya.so i am wondering what to do next (yes i know Donny- media blast!-oh how i wish). but before i get it blasted should i get more of the trunk pan out? floor pan too? or just blast it?put the rear 1/4 on?..i dont want the car to start to wobble from me cutting all the panels and stuff out. by the way,the snow is almost gone now.

hang in there

brave face, dont back down, you will overcome the battle with rust!

does someone make those frame rails? heck , im thinking i can patch some good metal in there if i have to, i have access to metal. brave face for sure, most guys would abandon ship by now, but not me. it may take me a few years because money is an object and i have a young family but one day it'll get done!besides the car is complete and i have a 4 door donor so all i really need to track down is metal i need.a sand/media blasting would also be nice!

AMD ( Autometaldirect ) makes them and there some vendors on site here that can give you a price, don't buy direct from them. You can also put a wanted add on the forums and hopefully someone has a good used pair.

Yes indeed! Jeff over at 521 restorations (FBBO member) will give you at least 15% off vs. buying direct from AMD.. I got partial rear rails (mid-hump back) from auto body specialties for my current project. Not as pretty as AMD's stuff, but still good quality, lined up nice and was a bunch cheaper. Keep in mind i'm not building no Trailer Queen/Hiney Shined kind of car......

Way to get after that rust! Great looking project, sorry I didn't check this one out sooner. Looks like the usual suspects are helping you along in the right direction. How are the frame rails on your doner car? A good doner car can save a ton of green on these cars, I went through 2 big chunks of doner cars on the "DOG" and saved thousands. Keep up the good work and move south!

didnt get alot of time on the car this week, i got the front bumper, grille, headlights/bezels, and front bumper filler out.here are a few pics to show the progress. ill have to check the donor car to see how the frame rails are, i actually never thought of that! silly me. :glasses2:

a couple pics of in the shed ,looking like an auto wreckers in there.

you definitly have your work cut out for you. I would make a list of what your car needs and then check what you can get from your donor car, then you might have a better idea what you would need to order for replacement parts.

sheet metal

I found that Roseville parts had the best prices on the rear piece of sheet metal brace /cant remember the name of part cross member ? I got lots of stuff from Sherman and associates ( trunk , quarters, etc) and front torsion bar area caps from Auto Rust technitions. window corners from Dantes. All were good suppliers, choosen for their pricing on items and reputation. hang in there! stay strong :Whdatk:you will win the fight best wishes! CD

hey guys! I know its been a while but i got at the car again today. pulled the hood and fenders off, got some more pics for you rust lovers out there! the front fenders really arent too bad. more rust under the front of the rocker though...surprise surprise.

Wow, checking in on ya! Progress!! Small progress, but, it's progress! If you need something, and don't have it available to you there, do what I did; make it available; create it, and or bring it! This is how I got into Media Blasting, built my rotisserie, my dolly's this way, etc. Or, save the $$ and get a pallet, box up the fenders and send to me! But, that's likely a way too expensive venture from Canada?

If you got the old metal off it, meaning the old crusty ****, take what's left to your sandblaster, frame rails, floor pans, inner fenders, will be ok for sand blasting. Roof skin, I'd say so so on; depends on how good the blaster is. I promise you the trunk lid is junk. The GTX and Sport Satellite had that tail panel insert and the holes drilled in it allow copious amounts of water in, and it rots from the inside out on the bottom. No one makes repop deck lids...yet!

thanks for the support donny! i just havent had much time (or sunshine) to work on the car.I am going to have to be very creative with this whole build. i dont have alot of $$ right now. ive decided i am going to get it blasted at some point -i pretty much have to. i found some parts across the line but they arent gonna be cheap.frame rails, roof, trans crossmember. i am going to just have to cough up and spent the $$ on the metal. i will fabricate whatever subframe/ hidden parts i can- im looking into getting a manual metal brake to fab pieces up.it would also be nice to get this car on some kind of a cart... i pulled a few muscles pushing it into the shop myself. luckily i have a spare trunk and hood and miscellaneous stuff from my 4 door donor car.theyre not perfect either but i think i can make something work

speaking of getting into media blasting, im thinking this project might drag me into it somehow.....dont worry Donny I am waaay to far away to be any competition for you. I did some sandblasting for a living for a short time a while back so i have a bit of experience.
should i remove the frame rails before i get the car blasted? probably huh?

Leave them in and work around and up to them, they will keep things supported while you have everything else off. You can spot blast later where needed.

hey guys,
so its been a while, but i am still in the game! i took a break for quite a while, till tonight.just been kind of too busy to work on the car and blah blah excuses excuses etc etc.I havent lost heart though. i decided to test out my new spot weld cutter! let me just say it cuts like a hot knife thru butter. each time was like...oops, cut thru both layers AGAIN.....anyhow, i cut some spot welds and detached my headlight backing from my front fender(to get at some nice rust, of course). i think ill just cut the rust out and leave it, since you cant really see it behind the bezels and stuff. just to stop the rust. but i do have some pics for those following. I'd really like to get at the car more often, but i need more tools(hopefully some will arrive at christmas.)but i did get a few pics of tonights work

If you have any chrome dash trim on either the four door or yours ill buy it off of you! Maybe would be enough to buy a small patch panel for your rockers or something haha I'm building up a green 69 four door actually..most ppl use them as parts but why not make a family car haha that's how I see it.. anyways if you do have anything you know you'll never use on your 2 door let me know I might have a use for it
