So what are your thoughts? I will be installing the freshly restored K frame beneath the Bee in the next 5 months. I'm strongly considering upgrading the drums brakes to disks. Below are a few questions...

1)Do I need to know rim size yet prior to purchasing disk set up? (It had 14" Magnum 500's which are not going back on.) I may go with either a 15" Magnum 500 or a 15-16" Torque Thrust.

2) Do you have any recommendations for an affordable front disk brake only set up? Link?

3) I'm also going to install power steering in the Bee, since I have the Coronet 440 parts car with everything to do it. Is there anything in particular i need to think about when selecting the front disck set up even though PS and brakes are separate?

Thanks fella's (and or Bellas)

Couple things to think about.........

Manual steering columns and power steering columns have different lengths...Power steering is column is shorter. Either replace the column or prepare to do some cutting/modifications.

Most aftermarket disc brake conversion "kits" out on the market are set up for a manual drum to power disc conversion. If you're already power, but drum only it may be a bit tough to find a "kit" that will work for that type of conversion. Find a Bendix style brake booster (tough to find and pricey) and matching M/C (easy enough to find) and you'll be set with most conversions down at the wheels. Otherwise, go full out aftermarket like Wilwood, but expect some modifications under the dash/ at the pedal. If you're manual already, folks like Right Stuff Detailing, Summit, Mancini and many others sell the kits.

Other options....piece and part together later A/B/E disc brake Equipment, find factory '69 disc brake equipment (very tough), either way....plenty of articles out there.

Also, most kits on the market require at least 15" wheels

Good luck.

Prayse Dyno brakes. Brakes in a box. I upgraded my 11" Hemi drums. Unless you make more than four heavy apps in a row, the brakes are great. Good feel and stopping power. Stronger springs and a blended material on the shoes make these nice brakes. The disc brake aggrevation is a bunch of bull to me. Spend your money elsewhere like TTI's or USCartool subframe connectors. Anything.

Do like Prop says.

I used the Master Power brake kit. I found some manufacturing flaws w/ it. Some castiong issues on the calipers etc. Some holes were not quite aligned. I made the mistake of ordering the "slotted rotors". Yeah, like my 70 Bee w/ a Hemi is gonna "handle and need to dissapate heat" I think for a "B" body, slotted rotors is overkill.
So, save your self $100+ and get conventional rotors.
BUT: Personally, I sure wish the car was mine! Neat car. great color combo!

Hi Prop,
Thanks for the info. I happen to have a Coronet 440 parts car, which has power steering, so I have the pump and the steering column shaft which is shorter and I was aware of that, but only recently. My Buddy Alan was suggesting not going to power brakes, but just upgrading to manual disks and to use the Master Power Brake kit..
So what I'm hearing is dont get the drilled or slotted rotors. Does someone have the link for the exact application for the Bee? As for the 15" wheels, thats probably what Im going with. Thanks again.

Rusty,
If I were to do it over, I would have gone w/ PST.
Where I live, the "High Desert of Mojave", it is very difficult to find a pre-1977 car that has NOT been crushed!
So, I opted for the : "Brakes in a Box"
Again, I would go w/ the PST kit. Good customer support, big company that has a good reputation, etc.
And: PST is a Vendor and member of our forum.
"You cant beat that"
"super-bee_ski"

You should have it by the end the week most likely. If you have any issues please contact me directly and I will work with you personally myself.

Thanks
James
