71 GTX Build

I posted these pics in another thread as well. I ordered these gauges through Speed Hut and the gauge cluster piece through Classic dash. Speed Hut takes about 1 month to do the custom assembly, but worth the wait in my opinion. I went with a GPS speedo to avoid hassles.

Car is looking great! Love that bodystyle of gtx. I will own one someday...

Exhaust is going on next week along with a few more wrap up items, and the GTX should be ready to fire up.

It's getting real close now. The exhaust, headliner, front/rear glass, and a few other items get installed this week. It should be ready to fire up by Friday. Here are some update pics.

Beautiful Ride!

I ordered the same panel from Classic Dash as well as the Auto-meter gauges for my 72. I'm waiting on the correct gauge-side wiring harness as they gave me the incorrect harness originally. Did you have any issues tying in the new "gauge side" harness to the original car/dash side harness, or did you replace that harness as well?? I'm hesitant to start that project with the Carlisle show coming up in July...would hate to get stuck or run into wiring issues prior to the show if you know what I mean. Thanks in advance for any help or tips you can pass along.

I think he sold that car.

Been a long time since I got to work on the car. I actually got pretty discouraged and tried to sell both of them on Ebay a few weeks back, but I guess fate has kicked in and they never got up to the reserve. After licking my wounds, I decided it doesn't matter much to me anymore if I am upside down in the cars because I am not a flipper and I just don't have the knack for scoring awesome deals. So with that said, I have started back tearing down the GTX. I got the roof off and will hopefully get time to pull the motor this weekend and dash. I am trying to figure out the best approach for replacing the roof. I have the 71 road runner with a rust free solid roof that I am using as a parts car. Would it be best to just cut out the rust and replace with the bracing from the RR or try to remove the entire roof from the factory seems and replace as one piece? Here are a few pics of the rust damage:

Thanks !

How did they end up fixing the roof? Did they drill apart the donor roof and piece it in? Or did they splice a whole clip in at the pillars?

My best friend ended up with this car, its in N, Ky now, and it is a BEAST, he trailered it to FL over the summer.

had to put new bearings in the rear end, but other than that it runs great and turns heads
