Does anyone one know what color the bolts were that hold the support bars that run from the cowling to the front fenders? I know the engine compartment and the other fender bolts are the same color as the body but I've noticed that the 2 support bars are typically painted black regardless of the body color. Were the bolts that hold the bars to the fenders black or body color?

Thanks for your input

They appeared to be a dull gray color. MY guess is they were silver zinc originally. I searched other cars for a while and I see many painted body color but I know what I removed from my unmolested car 2 years ago. I replaced them with Black Phosphate ones until I find or redo my originals.

A few of my charger s that were un touched the bolt head on the bars were black a matte black

I’m going to buck the trend here; I have distinct memories of seeing those bolts body color back in the day working at dealers as the struts were installed after body paint. The painted bolts were removed and reused to install the struts on the assembly line.

It's hard to see in my pictures but there was body color under my rods although the picture gives the appearance different and the bolts had smaller captive washers than the rest of the fender bolts .

If its any help, my 73 RR bolts are/were and always have been body color.

I would believe the body color bolts because it makes perfect sense and would be cost effective to Chrysler but I would bet it's a plant by plant thing.

Doug got me thinking so I checked some pictures of a 72RR that I owned a few years back. Had an un-touched motor bay and the bolts were body color.

yes body color, the fenders were bolted on the car, it was painted then the under hood parts were bolted in. The line man would remove two bolts and reuse them to mount the braces. Makes sense right?
