I am going through my transmission and noticed some damage on the separator plate.
Looking for advice, do I need another plate?
Maybe this is a normal thing?

The top one looks suspect, bottom is ok. Typically if the check ball makes a big enough groove that you can catch a fingernail on you should replace the separator plate. It will likely run fine though if its a street car.

The groove is caused by the check ball moving back and forth in the channel. This is a normal condition. As long as the hole where the ball seats is undamaged there will not be an issue. I build these by the dozen. Never had this condition cause an issue.

I found one that is quite a bit better, but still has some wear. I will use that one.
Thanks for the replies!

Make sure you lay them together and all the passageways are exact in location and size.
