So I got my 72 roadrunner running for the first time today, been sitting for months before I bought it. Put a new fuel tank, sending unit and all new lines and she fired up first crank and runs bitchin'. But the trans wouldn't go in gear, it was 4 quarts low on ATF, I topped it off and after a while of messing with it, it went into gear and drove fine but the column shifter is REALLY hard to shift out of park. Naturally like any other beer and freedom loving AMERICAN I cranked up Free Bird and did a real nice white smokey burnout for the neighbors. At which point the trans decided to stop working haha. The column shifter just goes up and down real screwy like, so my buddy crawled underneath it and manually shifted the trans in to drive, at which point I put Free Bird back on and did another burnout. After the burnout it I put it in reverse and it popped out of reverse and into drive by itself. After putting it in Park it will no longer engage any of the gears, not even with my buddy manually putting it in gear at the shift shaft. So my question is has anyone encountered this before? Is it just a messed up linkage? I have a new B&M floor shifter I can put in if so, is it just some stupid little part I need to replace? Or is my 727 basically a boat anchor now? Thanks in advance for the input fellas.
