I have 62-67 727 transmission, and when I place it in park, my car rolls back a bit and then feels like it goes into a gear and stops.

I was wondering if any knows why it is rolling back after placing it in park?

Is it a linkage adjustment or something internal?

How far does it roll. The parking pawl needs to engage a gear. If yhe two are not lined up properly the car will roll a little before they do. But usually just a couple of inches. Not a lot

When you put the shifter in park, there is an internal rod that pushes on a toothed "dog" that engages a toothed gear on the output shaft. The output shaft teeth need to line up with the "dog" before park is fully engaged. It shouldn't move very far before park is engaged.

Pretty normal for it to roll a few inches before park engages on our early pushbutton Mopars.
