73 fender tag decode help please....

Factory black on black, maybe so, seems odd to me, the placement seems spot on to the few original factory stripe cars I have seen. There is no trace of any graphics on the bulge hood. Maybe was never there or the direct sun and rain ate em up in almost 50 years. Nacho posted a pic of a black car with the red stripe and that looked pretty awesome to me, but said the repo red stripe kits offered today are terrible copy attempts at best.
If someone could show me the exact spot on the build sheet where the stripe code is stamped I will put my tattered pieces together again to see if anything is there.....thanks all

I wouldn't say terrible, but not accurate. Color gradation is missed the darker shadows. And I guess that same issue replicates on V6K and V6Y stripes, not just on the V6R

Thanks 69C, know where to look now. My bad on quoting you Nacho, I understand, in somethings, duplicating the original is hard to do....

Yes it can be hard, but on this case I don’t think really hard or imposible.

Guys , I have decoded some of these codes, but not all, can anyone help. I thought my car was a rally car , but no A 57 is there. I have front and once a rear sway bar, bulge hood with pins, and what I thought was the rally gauges....but no tach, don t rally pacs have tachs? The car was originally a four speed car someone had converted over to a 727. I m now thinking they stripped maybe a rally car for these parts as well as rear axle. thanksView attachment 980476

What are the numbers across the top of the tag? I have never paid much attention to 71+ tags and I have never noticed those numbers.

Lynch Road plant (only) gate sequence numbers.

Lots of info in there.

Thanks, what do you mean "lots of info in there"? So, a buddy sent me a pic of a tag with the following numbers across the top;

21102 179554 479 030

What would that mean?

I'm not a Lynch Road specialist, but we do have one on the board.

LR didn't put "traditional" codes on their tags for a lot of stuff, but some of it is in those gate sequence numbers.

400sforever did some decoding on the top line of my tag a while back, his findings, 056= 400 4 bbl with no AC, and 988807= 988=8 3/4 3.23 open diff. with 10 inch drums, 807= b body 4 speed. Much thanks to him and ALL y'all .....

Hey Bandit67,
Your car is coded for the J54 Sport hood. This hood was only available in the A57 Rallye package. So yes, you have a Charger Rallye. You also have an International/Export car. Most likely it was ordered by a service member overseas, and picked up at a military base near a major port here state side. Congrats on a great car!
Scott.

Additionally, the numbers across the top of the tag are found on Lynch Road Assembly Plant tags only. The first two sets of numbers are the Gate/Line/Sequence numbers for the car. A good article on what that actually means is located here: https://maxwedge.com/articles/lynchroad-gate-line.php

The second set of numbers are assembly codes for your engine, axle, and transmission. 056 - is for the 400-4bbl engine that is set up for a manual transmission and A/C.
988 - is for a 1973 B-Body 8-3/4" axle with 3.23 gears, no sure-grip, 10" Drums, and a 1-7/8" Pinion.
807 - is for the A833 4-speed manual transmission mated to the 400-4bbl engine.

Hope this helps!
Scott.

Thanks Scott, that helps a lot. Good link from you and Nacho both. I now understand the Gate Sequence number and why its there....Now, where do we find the list of all the codes that were used on the Lynch Road built cars.....

Different codes were used in different years - and sometimes they were not consistent even in the same year. I am still trying to put together a list of codes found on these fender tags for each year. It takes a tremendous amount of effort and research as you have to collect tons of fender tag pictures to even get a good sense of what was going on. Definitely a work in progress.
Scott.

In the 16 plus years I have been going to cars shows with both my Chargers, I have found one thing to be true, there was no definite with Ma Mopar.
I have found that if the dealer how to do it, you could order a 73 or 74 SE with a "Sport Hood" or rallye hood as they call it.
It wasn't so much ordering the hood as ordering the package and using the delete option, or something like that.
In any case, it could be done and lots of special order cars came out of Lynch Road. Just my 2 cents.
