73 Road Runner "Driveway Find" -- Thoughts on Value?

Wow, here in the Northeast that car would be worth 10K all day if it is rust free - I would gladly pay 9 or 10 grand for it.

I have a 73 340 Slap Stik automatic car that was my first car. I have always enjoyed driving it and still do. The 340 is a great engine, and now that mine is a 416 stroker it is even more fun. Here it is from 3 days ago.

Great pic! I miss that part of the country! The owner has not gotten back to me so perhaps he is having a change of heart. At 10K I am not a buyer -- if he jacks up his price, I'll pass on the info and someone here can try to get him to budge.

Good luck - I hope you can get the car at a price you are happy with. I think they are underappreciated cars that can really be a lot of run. Plus, how often do you see one on the road or at a car show? Personally, I see a lot more 68-70 models like my 70.

At any rate, I am unfortunately not a buyer for any car at this time. I have 4 cars squeezed in to a 3 car garage (two stacked on top of one another). As it is, I have to play car tetris all the time, and have no room and no money to invest in another. I've been dumping some money into the 73 to get it road worthy, and it is getting close.

Again - hope things turn out well and you end up with the car!

Update, after going back and forth with P.O., four rotted valve stem replacements on a slight hill, flatbed towing, storage space rental until I make room, and it is in a storage facility. I appreciate all of the help everyone! It has been rescued!

I tell ya, that was moving mountains and a logistical PITA but I almost felt obligated to rescue the car! It’s all there, just needs time and effort!

Good going on your RR rescue! It looks like a pretty good car. I don't think anyone else has mentioned it, but the -8 behind the engine casting # is the number of core changes required to cast your block. A new virgin core would be -1. As the casting core ages with use, certain areas can go out of manufacturing tolerances, such as core shift of a cylinder. This out of tolerance section will be removed and be replaced with a new in-tolerance section. Your engine casting core has had 7 sections replaced (-1 + 7 = -8). This number can go as high as -10 before core is scrapped. Racers look for lowest -# blocks to build because there could be less chance of core shift, which could result in inconsistent cylinder wall thickness.

I think so. Windows off tracks, power steering pump / water pump half replaced, driveshaft out, e brake off, dash and column dropped — looks like someone got overwhelmed because so many things are apart not just one thing. Let’s hope nothing major!

What is hilarious is that I am not sure if I saw a tranny. I got the driveshaft but the crossmember is different than what I’m used to seeing on a 68-70. It was sitting on flat tires on one side and I’m not sure. I was more worried about getting the car. Going to make a trip and check it out soon!

Update on car…wife told me to get car cleaned out before I get it home. There is no power so I called mobile detail crew. Guy came out to give me an estimate and instead buffed out two areas on the car. I about fell over after 30 minutes on two areas. Deciding if I’ll get him to finish the job! I just wanted it vacuumed since there is no power at storage place but it looks like a different car!

Depending on how much this guy wants to buff the rest, I would let him go nuts on it. Then you will know what you have and just how much bodywork you have to do. I have seen these guy work miracles on faded paint. Upside, it will motivate you to work on the rest of the car. Nice looking from what is visible.

I think I will let them do it. Last time I tried that I hit metal.

Sometimes you get lucky like that.

Just be sure they are careful not to burn through the paint.

Got the car buffed out on Thursday and wanted to share! Getting really hard to not restore it sooner than later! Thanks for all the help everyone!
